Here’s the next sardine tin monster ready to devour his enemies! Stay tuned for painting! 🐸

The sardine tin monster is complete! I used a recycled award plaque and a map of Antarctica for the background, which has a bunch of terrifying names that felt apropos. I also used resin for the first time so he’s got sloppy drool dripping from the mouth and tongue. You really have to see it in person for the full effect but I’ll try to get some video. I had so much fun with this one that I’ve already started the next monster! 🌊

I love that we have a farm stand close enough to take an afternoon break for ice cream and produce! Fried okra and muscadine jelly will be happening this weekend. 🥰🙌

We’ve spent most of the weekend in the Cipher Art studio, which is always a labor of love. This is especially true when it comes to making my little witchy bottles. Most of the herbs we have grown in our garden and the vintage spice bottles have become my own little apothecary, despite originally purchasing them for another art project. I look forward to debuting these at our next event. Come see us at Raleigh Iron Works pop-up market Saturday 9/12! ✨🍃✨

The first new ghostie of the season! More will be available for the next CipherArt event: Pop-up market at Raleigh Iron Works on Saturday, Sept 12! 👻 🎃
I’ve been working on a new gothic heart series and “Echoes in Time” is the centerpiece that I’m submitting to a local show with an emphasis on folklore and magic. The “stuck heart” is a protection talisman that wards off (and also returns) negative intent. The concept is rooted in Celtic folk magic where traditionally a real animal heart was pierced with nails or thorns.
While building this piece, my mind kept conjuring up memories of one of the old houses (late 1800s) that I grew up in, with peeling paint over crumbling plaster and floorboards that would creak with every step. I’m really interested to see what it conjures up for other viewers. More gothic hearts are now live on the CipherArt shop!

I’m working on a new series of gothic hearts for the next CipherArt drop and I’m loving how this one came together! 🖤🫀
