Joe Day

Rough-in on the pedalboard — still loose on the rug, nothing screwed down yet. Building this one for two shows: Grace's 15-year anniversary in Mount Vernon on Aug 7 (btw...there are only 10 tickets remaining before we sell out), and the first time anyone hears Wilderness songs live, Sept 19 at Arcadian Public House with the Coyotes.

I don't fully know why I love building these so much. I spend most of my days behind a screen, and this is the opposite of that — just my hands, and a puzzle to solve one cable at a time.

What's the thing that gets your hands busy enough to quiet everything else down?

“Gotta kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.”

Bruce Cockburn wrote that, but it’s been living in my head lately.

If I ask myself why I do this at all — it’s because we need each other. And music brings us together in ways nothing else can.

If the weight of the world is getting to you the way it’s been getting to me, come to a show. We’ll sing. I’ll tell stories. And somewhere in there, we’ll chip away at the darkness together.
