EXO is honored to be joined this season by four world renowned artists who will be performing as soloists on our October and February concerts.

✨ “A cellist with something to say” (Gramophone), Inbal Segev performs the NYC premiere of Anna Clyne’s DANCE with EXO on October 23rd. Recorded with Alsop and the London Philharmonic, her premiere recording of Clyne’s concerto topped the Amazon Classical Concertos chart, its opening movement receiving more than 13 million listens on Spotify. During the early pandemic lockdowns, Segev launched 20 for 2020, a commissioning, recording, and video project for 20 composers, including John Luther Adams, Viet Cuong, Angélica Negrón, and the cellist herself. A dedicated chamber musician, she co-founded the Amerigo Trio with Glenn Dicterow and Karen Dreyfus, and her acclaimed discography includes a collaboration with Juho Pohjonen. Her cello was made by Francesco Ruggieri in 1673.

✨ On February 20th, Howard Howell’s Elegy will be performed by violist Paul Neubauer, whose exceptional musicality and effortless playing have earned him praise as “a master musician” from The New York Times. At age 21, Neubauer was appointed principal violist of the New York Philharmonic, a position he held for six years. He has since appeared as a soloist with over 100 orchestras, and has also premiered viola concertos by Béla Bartók (revised version of the Viola Concerto), Reinhold Glière, Gordon Jacob, Henri Lazarof, Robert Suter, Joel Phillip Friedman, Aaron Jay Kernis, Detlev Müller-Siemens, David Ott, Krzysztof Penderecki, Tobias Picker, and Joan Tower. In the summer of 2026, he will premiere a new viola concerto by Ellen Taaffe Zwilich with conductor JoAnn Falletta at the Brevard Music Center. A two-time GRAMMY nominee, Neubauer has recorded for numerous labels, including Decca, Deutsche Grammophon, RCA Red Seal, and Sony Classical. He is a frequent performer with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and serves as the artistic director of the Mostly Music series in New Jersey. He is on the faculty of The Juilliard School and Mannes College.

✨ GRAMMY Award-nominated concert pianist and composer Stewart Goodyear performs Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson’s Grass on February 20th. Proclaimed "a phenomenon" by the Los Angeles Times and "one of the best pianists of his generation" by the Philadelphia Inquirer, Goodyear is an accomplished concert pianist, improviser and composer. His recent commissions include an orchestral work for the Chineke! Orchestra, his Piano Quintet for the Penderecki String Quartet, and a piano work for the Honens Piano Competition. His suite for solo violin, "Solo" was recorded by violinist Miranda Cuckson on the Urlicht Audiovisual label, and his work for cello and piano, "The Kapak" was recorded by cellist Inbal Segev on the Avie Records label. Goodyear's discography includes the complete sonatas and piano concertos of Beethoven, as well as concertos by Tchaikovsky, Grieg and Rachmaninov, an album of Ravel piano works, and an album, entitled "For Glenn Gould", which combines repertoire from Gould's US and Montreal debuts. His Rachmaninov recording received a Juno nomination for Best Classical Album for Soloist and Large Ensemble Accompaniment. Goodyear's recording of his own transcription of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker (Complete Ballet)", was chosen by the New York Times as one of the best classical music recordings of 2015.

✨ GRAMMY Award-winning violinist and composer Michelle Barzel Ross performs Ralph Vaughn Williams’ The Lark Ascending on February 20th. Highlights include solo debuts in Carnegie Hall, with the San Francisco Symphony and Orchestre de Chambre de Paris. Barzel Ross has toured as guest first violinist with the Juilliard String Quartet, Avi Avital’s Between Worlds Ensemble, and Musicians from Marlboro. She often collaborates as guest concertmaster around the world, with Orchestre de Paris, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and next season brings her Deustche Oper debut with le Balcon. Praised for her albums of Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas and Vivaldi Four Seasons, Barzel Ross is a featured artist with Jon Batiste on GRAMMY winning Album of the Year, We Are. As a composer, Barzel Ross has been commissioned by Lucerne Festival, Tanglewood Music Center, Juilliard String Quartet, Jasper String Quartet, with recent premieres in Wigmore Hall, MusikVerein, and Boulez Saal. We had so much fun talking with the brilliant students in EXO board member Sharon Counts' Leadership and Team Building seminar at the New School yesterday! As much as we enjoyed sharing EXO's story and our thoughts about leadership and innovative thinking in the arts, I think we gained as much if not more inspiration from these ambitious and wildly talented artists.
