Sharing a little bit about competing…
One of the best ways to grow in Jiu-Jitsu is by competing. Competition exposes your strengths, reveals the areas you need to improve, teaches you how to perform under pressure, and gives you a clear direction for your training.
If you’re a hobbyist and you decide to compete, you should already be incredibly proud of yourself. That’s a huge victory before you even step on the mat.
Think about everything you’re balancing your job, your family, your responsibilities, and everything life throws at you. Then, despite all of that, you choose to step outside your comfort zone and test yourself. That takes courage.
The truth is, there are even many black belts who no longer have the courage to compete. So if you’re willing to put yourself out there, you’ve already accomplished something that deserves respect. And honestly, you should be proud of yourself just for consistently showing up to train, because that alone isn’t easy.
Your competition results do NOT define who you are.
Wins don’t make you invincible, and losses don’t make you a failure. They are simply part of the learning process.
I still remember my first competition I won. It felt amazing, and I thought that’s how every tournament would go. Then came my second competition. I walked in expecting another victory… and I lost.
At first, it was frustrating. But looking back, that loss became one of the biggest reasons I kept improving. Instead of discouraging me, it motivated me to train harder, learn more, and become a better athlete and coach.
Everyone experiences frustration, nerves, self-doubt, and setbacks. The key is learning how to respond.
That mindset will take you much further than any medal ever will.
Competition is a fantastic way to challenge yourself, step outside your comfort zone, and accelerate your growth. Even if Jiu-Jitsu is just your hobby, competing can be an incredible experience.
But remember: you don’t have to compete to enjoy or succeed in Jiu-Jitsu.
Whether your goal is to become a world champion, get in shape, learn self-defense, make lifelong friends, or simply have fun with your teammates, your journey is just as valuable.

Happy to be back and excited for what’s ahead.

Just got my invitation to compete at the biggest grappling tournament in the world , and I’m honored for the opportunity.
Time to get back to work and chase that second title.

Grateful for the support 🙏🏼

Being on the mats, sharing knowledge, guiding students, and watching them grow gives me the same fire I had when I was competing. Every time someone walks through the door to train with me, I feel proud and truly honored.

Stepping on the mats is easy for me this is my job.
But for my students, this is their time to disconnect from everything outside, forget their problems, have fun, and train. They all have busy lives outside the mats work, family, responsibilities and because of that, I feel a responsibility to give them all my energy, every single class.

I bring the same intensity, focus, and heart that I brought to every competition into teaching, leading, and building people through Jiu-Jitsu.

This is more than a job. This is who I am.
And I’m grateful every day to live my passion and give my absolute best to my students on and off the mats.

The mindset hasn’t changed.
The discipline hasn’t changed.
The passion hasn’t changed.

And no I’m not retiring from
Competing 😂👊🏻

Let’s ASCEND 🔝🔝
