Yay! Thank you to everyone who attended our July Super Basic Drawing class. It was an absolute joy to teach and I was so impressed with the drawings students created, especially for those who were picking up a pencil for the first time! It is so fun to see what students chose as their favorite drawing they made at the end of the class.

We’ll be offering this 3 week course again starting August 18th! There’s 3 spots left. If you are thinking about dipping your toes into making art, Super Basic Drawing is the perfect place to start!

Thank you to Jonathan Tune ( ) for a fantastic sketching workshop this past Sunday. We loved the quick, loose approach to sketching without getting to caught up on the details! Everyone had fun.

Our next sketching workshop with Tina Koyama is full, but go save your spot in Sky & Clouds in Your Travel Sketches with David Chamness () or Spiral of Attention with Nishant Jain ()! Both instructors are amazing teachers and artists.

Drawing people from observation can be difficult and intimidating. People in public spaces move frequently or change postures. They can abruptly leave the scene and be replaced by other people. Sometimes there are only a few seconds to draw someone. Is that enough time?

It is important to draw people from real life because observation is an important first step to understanding. How do people around us live? What do they do? How do they interact with their world? When drawing our urban environment, it is important to draw people because the environment only exists in the context of human presence. Can you effectively draw a cafe without anyone making or drinking coffee? Is it a bus-stop if no one is waiting for a bus?

This workshop will show you how even a few seconds are sufficient to draw the people of our world. Participants will learn to construct the human figure out of simple lines and shapes. They will learn to move with speed and ignore their fears and hesitations. In exercises, participants will learn to use their instincts and curiosity to make simple but expressive drawings of the people of their world.

We will walk a few blocks away from ARTspot and draw on location from the sidewalk
