🚨 CIVIL EMERGENCY MESSAGE TEST 🚨

Los Angeles County will be testing the Civil Emergency Message (CEM) system on Monday, September 21 at 10:25 AM.

The test will activate the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and trigger audio/visual alerts on AM/FM radio, television, and NOAA Weather Radios.

This is a planned test to ensure emergency communication systems are working.

Please share with your family, friends, and neighbors so everyone knows what to expect.

Today, the El Segundo community came together with the El Segundo Fire and Police Departments for our 25th Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony. Thank you to everyone who joined us as we paused to reflect, remember, and honor those whose lives were forever changed on September 11.

We are grateful to our community for coming together to ensure we Never Forget.

⚠️ The National Weather Service is forecasting potentially deadly rip currents and large waves this holiday weekend due to Hurricane Marie. A Coastal Flood Advisory and High Surf Advisory will be in effect Saturday, Sept. 5 at 6:00 AM through Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 11:00 PM.

🌊 What to Expect:

-Large breaking waves 5–8 ft, with sets up to 10 ft

-Strong, widespread rip currents that can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea

-Moderate coastal flooding during high tide, impacting parking lots, beaches, and walkways

-Increased risk of ocean drowning, beach erosion, and injuries from waves washing over rocks and jetties

Today, El Segundo Fire Department had the incredible opportunity to sign the last beam for the LA Sparks’ new Sports Performance Center!

This project represents so much more than a new building, it’s an investment in our community, in the future of women’s sports, and in creating a place where athletes can train, grow, and inspire the next generation.

Our Fire Prevention Team has been working hard behind the scenes throughout this project, partnering with the construction team to help ensure the facility meets fire and life-safety codes every step of the way. Their dedication helps make sure this exciting new space will be not only innovative, but safe for the athletes, staff, and community who will use it for years to come.

🌡️ Heat Advisory in Effect 🌡️

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory beginning Friday at 10:00 a.m. through Sunday at 8:00 p.m.

As temperatures rise, take steps to protect yourself and those around you:

Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
Protect yourself with sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses.
Check in on neighbors, especially older adults and anyone without air conditioning.

A few simple precautions can help keep our community safe. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and take care of one another.

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 1:00 PM, Alert SouthBay and regional partners, including the El Segundo Fire Department, will conduct a LIVE Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) test throughout the South Bay ahead of FIFA World Cup 26 ⚽

📱 During the test, your phone, smartwatch, or tablet may:
🔊 Make a loud alert sound
📳 Vibrate
📢 Read the alert aloud
📲 Display a test message

This is ONLY A TEST. No action is required.

The regional exercise helps emergency agencies:
✔️ Evaluate emergency alert systems
✔️ Improve regional coordination
✔️ Test alerts on international mobile devices ahead of FIFA World Cup 26
✔️ Increase public awareness of emergency notifications
