Elgin Latin Cemetery
The Elgin Latin Cemetery is located in Elgin, Texas and is located right off Hwy 290 at 305 Ochoa.
From now on, the entry gates will be closed at 7:30 PM. It is unfortunate that we have to do that but everyone who has purchased a plot at the Elgin Latin Cemetery has been told the closing time and they have signed a contract agreeing to several things, including that they would abide by the cemetery closure time. The employee who closes the gate has to go in every night and tell many people that it is closing time and then they take their sweet time leaving the cemetery. It is a sign of disrespect towards the cemetery and the employee who is closing up.
Another option we are considering is closing the cemetery at 6:30 or 7 PM from here on.

In Loving Memory of Cecil Rico III
Cecil Rico III, age 38, passed away on August 24, 2026. He was born on November 24, 1987, in Temple, Texas.
Cecil was raised in Bartlett, Elgin and Austin Texas. He was an easygoing person with a kind heart and a personality that made him easy to love. He will be remembered for his laid-back nature, his love for his family, and the many memories he shared with those around him.
Cecil loved all sports, but especially his beloved Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed watching ESPN and could tell you everything he had seen, always ready to share the latest NFL and college football news, player statistics, and his thoughts about the games. Sports were a big part of who Cecil was, and he could always find something to talk about when it came to his favorite teams and players.
One of the simple things Cecil especially enjoyed was his dad’s cooking. These everyday moments and memories will be treasured by his family forever.
Cecil leaves behind a daughter, Madilynn, who held a special place in his heart. Cecil is survived by his father Cecil Rico Jr. and stepmom Mary Rico, he is also survived by his siblings, Lacey, Nicholas, Michaela, and Abel; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Cecil was preceded in death by his mother, Lisa Orona, his paternal grandparents, Cecil Rico Sr. and Pauline Rico; uncle Tim Rico, aunt Sally Torres and maternal grandfather, Lee Flores.
Although Cecil’s life was far too short, the memories he created, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave will remain in the hearts of his family, and friends. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Margaret “Memo” Sanchez
July 24, 1938 – August 18, 2026
Margaret “Memo” Sanchez passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Margaret was born on July 24, 1938, in McQueeney, Texas, to Luis and Dominga Cruz. She later made Elgin, Texas, her home where she remained for the rest of her life. At the age of 15, she married her soulmate, Patricio “Ticho” Sanchez, and together they raised four children: Patricio Jr., Ruben, Stevie, and Dawn.
Caring for others was at the heart of Margaret’s life. She worked for many years at the Nursing home, Travis State School, and Austin State School. She continued to care for local residents in her community.
Margaret held many titles—mom, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and grandma—but none more special than Memo. To her family, being Memo meant love, comfort, laughter, and a lifetime of memories.
She was known for her baking and loved trying new recipes. Her peanut brittle, chocolate pixies, and potato chip cookies were family favorites. She loved telling jokes, laughing, and never hesitated to tell it like it was.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Patricio “Ticho” Sanchez; her parents, Luis and Dominga Cruz; her son, Stevie Sanchez; her sisters; and her grandson, lovingly known as Boo-Boo.
She leaves behind her sons, Patricio “Jr.” Sanchez and Ruben Sanchez, who lovingly cared for his mother for the past 30 years; her daughter, Dawn; her siblings, Patty Galivez, Josie Paiz, and Eddie Cruz. 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.
Memo will be deeply missed, but her love, laughter, recipes, stories, and traditions will live on.
Her life was a blessing, her love was a gift, and her legacy will live on through every generation blessed to call her Mom, Grandma, and especially, Memo.
Rosary will be held August 24, 2026, at 7 at Providence Jones Funeral home.
Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church August 25, 2026, at 11.
