Adulting starts at 18…So can estate planning. 🎂⚖️📑❤️
Today was a special one at our office. I created an estate plan for a smart, brave, strong young person who turned 18 today – my daughter!!
Most people hear “estate planning” and think it is something you do when you are older, have accumulated wealth, bought a house, or started a family.
But I like to think about it differently. Estate planning can be a rite of passage into adulthood.
At 18, the law recognizes you as an adult. With that independence also comes responsibility, including deciding who you trust to help you with your healthcare, finances, and important decisions if there ever comes a time when you cannot make those decisions yourself.
For parents, it is also an important transition. After years of making decisions for our children, turning 18 means learning how to stand beside them rather than automatically act for them.
That is what good planning can do.
It isn’t about expecting something bad to happen.
It is about entering adulthood intentionally—with a voice, a plan, and people you trust.
So today, along with celebrating my daughter’s birthday, we celebrated something else:
A young person taking one of their first legal steps into adulthood. Now that’s adulting! ❤️
Happy 18th birthday to my firstborn! 🎂

You've brought it up before. Maybe it was after watching a friend go through a probate that dragged on for years. Maybe a health scare prompted the conversation, or a birthday that snuck up faster than expected. Whatever brought it to mind, you tried to talk to your spouse about getting your estate plan done.
And it went nowhere.
Not because they're openly against it. Maybe they changed the subject. Maybe they agreed, and then nothing happened. Maybe they said, "We don't need to worry about that yet," and somehow that became the final word.
So you're stuck. You know what needs to happen. You can't get your partner to come along. And every week that passes without an estate plan is a week your family's future depends on legal defaults you didn't write.
This week's article is for the person who sees it, and is trying to figure out what to do while waiting for their spouse to catch up.

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act made four significant changes to the tax code that directly affect how business owners invest, borrow, structure their entities, and plan for the future.
Bonus depreciation is now permanent at 100 percent. The Section 199A pass-through deduction is now permanent, and the income thresholds where phaseout rules apply have expanded. Domestic R&D expenses can be immediately deducted again. And business interest deductibility improved.
Most business owners are aware the law passed. Fewer have actually reviewed their entity structure, their insurance coverage, their capital decisions, and their tax strategy in light of the new rules.
The gap between knowing the rules changed and adjusting how you operate is where the opportunity lives right now. This week's article breaks down what each change means and what to do about it across all four LIFT systems: Legal, Insurance, Financial, and Tax.

🍼 If your baby was born on or after January 1, 2025, the federal government has set aside $1,000 for your child. 💰👶
The account is officially open, and contributions began July 4, 2026 📅 Most families haven't taken the step to claim it yet! 👀
A Trump Account is a federally seeded, tax-advantaged investment account for your child. The government contributes $1,000 for children born in the 2025–2028 window. 👨👩👧👦 Parents, grandparents, and other family members can contribute up to $5,000 per year on top of that. 📈
The funds grow tax-advantaged for up to 18 years and cannot be touched until the child turns 18. 🔒🎓💸
Most coverage on Trump Accounts stops at "how to open one." This week's article goes further: what the account means for your family's estate plan, what questions to ask before you open it, and what to do once it's in place. 📝⚖️
