You don’t need to know Jiu-Jitsu to walk into your first class. That’s what class is for. 🥋

In First Tap, Ep. 3, we take a closer look at fundamentals and how self-defense fits into your training.

You’ll have questions. You’ll encounter unfamiliar movements. And you’ll have guidance as you learn.

Everyone starts somewhere. We’re here to help you start.

DM us to ask about your first class at Gracie Barra Encinitas.

October 1st. Helio Gracie’s birthday.

He was smaller and weaker than the men he trained with, so instead of relying on strength, he adapted the technique. That single decision is why Jiu-Jitsu works for a 10-year-old, a 45-year-old dad, or anyone who’s ever felt like they didn’t belong in a gym.

“Jiu-Jitsu for everyone” isn’t just something we say. It’s where this art came from.

Happy birthday to the man who made the mat a place for all of us. 🥋🔴⚪

A new challenge. The same support behind them. 🥋

Our Kids Competition Team Trials are an opportunity for students to take their practice a step further with focus, effort, and respect for their teammates.

Competition is part of the journey. Learning how to prepare, navigate nerves, and keep growing matters beyond the mat.

Interested in the next step for your child? Check the flyer for trial details and ask our team how to join.

A new class. A bigger mat. 🥋

Our Adaptive Classes are officially beginning at Gracie Barra Encinitas, creating more space for more people to experience Jiu-Jitsu in a way that meets them where they are.

Because access matters. Individual progress matters. And everyone deserves the chance to learn, move, build confidence and be part of the team.

This is an important new chapter for our academy, and we’re proud to see it start here.

Reality check: you don’t need to clear some imaginary bar before you belong on the mat.

You don’t need to compete. You don’t need to train six days a week. You don’t need to look a certain way walking in.

What’s real here: showing up between meetings, kids’ practice, and everything else life throws at you. Getting stronger. Sleeping better. Staying consistent for months, then years.

Progress isn’t rushed here. It’s built. 🥋

A proud day on the mats for our GBE kids. 🥋

Promotion day gives us a chance to pause and celebrate the effort behind each step forward: showing up, practicing, listening, and trying again.

Congratulations, kids! We’re proud of your progress and grateful to share this moment with your families. 🤝

Your Next Move: passing the guard with Master Nelson. 🥋

A guard pass is more than getting around someone’s legs. Watch how Master Nelson breaks down the movement and shows why the details matter.

Save this one to revisit before your next class, and tell us: what part of the pass are you working on?

Confidence rarely arrives all at once. 🥋

It’s built in small receipts: showing up when you’re unsure, trying again after getting caught, handling pressure a little better than last time.

That’s the quiet side of Jiu-Jitsu people don’t always see.

This week on Between Rolls, Teacher Carla gets into what starts changing when training becomes part of your life.

Jiu-Jitsu has a way of challenging you physically, mentally, and personally, all at once.

That’s what makes it different.

Hear it from a GB Encinitas parent. 🔺

Turns out, the hardest part of Jiu-Jitsu depends on who you ask. 👀

Remembering the moves. Escaping bad positions. Not giving up when you’re tired.

Maybe even tying the belt correctly. 😅

But that’s kind of the point.

We asked our GB Encinitas kids: what’s the hardest part of Jiu-Jitsu? Their answers did not disappoint. 🔺
