Mercyhurst ICGP

One of our Adjunct Intelligence Professors, Jim Hamby, is helping to organize “Safeguarding America’s Research” in Kannapolis, North Carolina (40 minutes north of Charlotte) on October 14th and 15th. Leadership from our Intelligence Program is attending as well. This would likely not only be an informative experience for you but also may offer a chance to meet some senior officers from across the US Intelligence Community and federal government. The flyer provides more information regarding the schedule, agenda, and participants.
Jim coordinated with the leadership of the Southeast Defense Innovation Center (SEDIC) which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and is hosting this event. Jim advises that SEDIC leadership is willing to waive the $55.00 registration fee for any current student. If you decide to do that, just select the category of military/government as then your registration fee will be $00.00.
Desktop users can copy and paste the following registration link if interested in registering and attending: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/safeguarding-americas-research-tickets-1990822498685?aff=oddtdtcreator The link will also remain on our story and under our Instagram highlights (“SAR Info”) until October 14th.

Our Lakers completed some excellent internships this summer! Here is some feedback from Adam Cline, a Senior Laker: “I was a Business Insights and Competitive Intelligence Intern at ADT. I researched competitors and market trends, developed intelligence briefs and presentations, and helped turn research into insights that could support marketing and business strategy. The most meaningful part of this internship was seeing my research and analysis contribute to real conversations and projects within the company. Seeing how intelligence is used in a major company was extremely valuable. The Intel Program prepared me by teaching me how to research effectively, evaluate sources, identify important trends, and turn a large amount of information into clear and actionable insights. Those skills translated directly into competitive intelligence work I was doing at ADT.”

On Wednesday, students had the opportunity to attend Mercyhurst’s competitive intelligence panel discussion. They heard from alumni currently working in the industry, learned about their career paths, and asked them questions. Thank you to the panel speakers for providing their valuable insight, and thank you to the students who attended!

Congratulations to the first year Applied Intelligence graduate students for completing their intensive bootcamp with Professor Thiele!

Our RIAP 275 Intelligence Writing and Presentation class is off and running. Our teams are established and ready to work at our Intelligence Desks this semester. We cannot wait to see what this crew of Lakers can do.

This weekend, Mercyhurst students and faculty honored the 25th anniversary of September 11th. At the raising of the colors, students and faculty prayed together before listening to two meaningful speeches from Ted Stanich of the Intelligence Department and President David Livingston.
Ted Stanich, Brian Fuller, John Patterson, Scott Macdowell, and Fred Hoffman spoke at the 9/11 25th anniversary commemoration panel discussion. They shared their own experiences, encouraged audience members to remember the stories of those impacted by this tragedy, and reminded attendees to remain vigilant.

Our Intro to Intelligence Studies Lakers cracked the code. These students studied a letter between members of the Culper Spy Ring, and 711 (General Washington) would have been proud! Nice work!

We have more winners out of our graduating seniors. John White won the Frank Barry Leadership Award as well as the Male Scholar Athlete of the year award. Michael Brafi won the Sister Carolyn Herman Service Award and Anna Clarke won the Bishop’s Award. Your hard work is recognized and we wish you luck moving forward.

As we wrap up the semester our graduating students, both undergraduates and graduates, received their Intelligence Studies Challenge Coin to commemorate their time here and to celebrate the bright future ahead of them all. Good Luck Lakers and all the best.
