🐾 Teaching Tuesday: What’s in a Breed? 🐾
One of the questions we hear most often at the rescue is, “What breed is this dog?” The honest answer? Most of the time… we’re making our best educated guess.
Unless a dog comes to us with documented parentage or DNA testing, breed labels are simply our best estimate based on physical traits. Mixed-breed dogs can inherit characteristics from generations of different breeds, making them look like one thing while acting like something completely different.
Take Jun, for example. ❤️
Jun is almost a year old, and we’re calling him a Shar-Pei mix because he and his sister both have those adorable wrinkly faces. But beyond those wrinkles? He’s petite, slim, and much lighter in build than a typical Shar-Pei. The truth is, we may never know exactly what breeds make up this handsome boy—and that’s okay.
What we do know is far more important than a breed label.
🐶 Jun is respectful.
🐶 He’s gentle and tolerant.
🐶 He has wonderful manners.
🐶 He’s the kind of dog who quietly waits his turn and asks for very little.
Sadly, Jun also faces two common adoption hurdles. His dark coat means he’s often overlooked due to what’s known as Black Dog Syndrome, and an uncommon breed guess can cause people to make assumptions before they ever meet him.
But dogs aren’t their color, and they aren’t a breed label.
They’re individuals.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion, we encourage you to look beyond the breed guess and spend time getting to know the dog in front of you. You just might discover that your perfect match has been patiently waiting all along.
We think Jun deserves that chance. 🖤

😍Who is ready for some cuteness??😍
Meet the BREAKFAST BREAD LITTER🥯🥐🍞
This group of tots was brought in motherless at only 4-5 weeks old. While we were told they were pitbull mixes, at 8 weeks old now all are still under 7 lbs!! Is there such a thing as a teacup pitty 😂😂??
While we have no idea what their actual breed mix is, we would plan for them to be medium size dogs. These kiddos have been socialized around other dogs and kids 10+. They are deeply people oriented but still love toys and play. While they haven’t been introduced with cats, we expect with appropriate training they could be assimilated easily into a cat home.
🥐 Croissant: short coat tan female. Inquisitive, loves play and exploring!
🫖Scone: fluffy coat tan male. Largest of the lot, very cuddly and calmest of the batch
🍞Poptart: fluffy coated brindle male. Good mix of play and cuddles
🧁Muffin: blue female. The runt of the litter, this tiny tot loves cuddles and adores playing with other dogs!
🐾neutered/spayed
🐾 up to date on age appropriate vaccines
🐾fostered in Eugene oregon
🐾adoption: 4️⃣5️⃣0️⃣
These babies are still young! They will need potty training, puppy classes, and all the things needed to become good canine citizens. Please be prepared for the time and energy it takes to train a puppy well!
We have almost mastered the stairs! 😅

Say hello to Halligan, the ultimate people-puppy!
If you are looking for a brave, self-assured, and adventurous companion, Halligan is your guy. He is incredibly outgoing and loves to greet humans first thing, making sure everyone feels loved before he runs off to play.
Why you’ll fall in love with Halligan
He is very, very friendly and absolutely loves other dogs—though humans will always get his first hello!
Halligan is highly athletic, curious, and completely self-assured. New places and things don't faze this confident boy!
He is very food-motivated, which makes him an absolute dream to train.
Just like his brother Axe, he couldn't care less about the backyard chickens.
He is doing very, very well with his kennel training! He is blank canvas ready for adventures once he learns the ropes! He is fixed, age appropriate vaccines and microchipped. He’s a pitty mix of the sorts we have no idea what he could be mixed with. And he’s around 4-5 months old!
Could this sweet boy be the one for you!

Meet Axe!
Axe is a sweet, introspective boy who loves to take his time thinking and processing the world around him. But once he’s done thinking, his absolute favorite activity is curling up for a good cuddle with his humans. He is fixed, age appropriate vaccines and microchipped! He is a pitty mix of some sort and around 4-5 months old.
Here is what makes him so special 🐾
He has had fantastic interactions with his foster siblings. In fact, his foster family says: "If our dog could choose to keep one of our foster dogs, it would be Axe!"
He absolutely loves playing with toys and engaging with other pups.
He is totally ambivalent about the chickens hanging out in the backyard! No exposure to cats though!
His kennel training is getting better and better every day, and he has never had a single accident in his kennel!
Axe is still working on his leash training and potty training, but this smart, observant boy is learning more every day. He just needs a patient forever family to help him master the basics!
Could you be Axe's forever cuddle partner?
