Meet our Lady-in-Waiting. Mezzo-soprano Ágnes Vojtkó returns to Eugene Opera for its 50th anniversary season to join Verdi’s Macbeth.

Known for her “heart-touching and plush sound,” Vojtkó has performed throughout the Pacific Northwest and across the country, including with Eugene Vocal Arts, Oregon Mozart Players, and Capella Romana. She also made her Carnegie Hall debut in Handel’s Messiah in 2023.

Now, she returns to the Hult Center stage after making her Eugene Opera debut as Flora in La traviata in 2024. As the Lady-in-Waiting, she witnesses Lady Macbeth’s unraveling in some of the opera’s most haunting scenes.

Meet our Doctor. Oregon bass-baritone Doremus Scudder brings decades of experience in opera and teaching to the Eugene Opera’s performance of Verdi’s Macbeth.

Scudder spent 30 years performing and teaching in Vienna, appearing throughout Europe and the United States before returning to Oregon in 2019. Since then, he has performed with Eugene Opera in La bohème, La traviata, and Rigoletto.

Now, he returns to the Eugene Opera stage for Macbeth to take on the role of the Doctor who witnesses the consequences of Macbeth's actions.

Meet our Malcolm. Costa Rican tenor Esteban Zúñiga Calderón returns to the Eugene Opera for its 50th anniversary season.

With a career spanning opera, concert, and new works, Zúñiga Calderón has performed with Seattle Opera, Eugene Opera, Eugene Symphony, and organizations throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

Now, he brings his expressive voice and high range to the role of Malcolm, a prince forced into exile who becomes the leader who will reclaim the Scottish throne.

A behind the scenes look!

Our cast and crew are hard at work bringing Verdi’s Macbeth to the Eugene Opera stage, rehearsing scenes from Acts I and II as well as working through blocking, staging, and all the important details to bring this show to life.

Meet our Banquo. Bass-baritone Jeffrey Seppala brings extensive experience in opera and concert repertoire to Verdi’s Macbeth.

Seppala has performed with companies including Opera Idaho, Opera Montana, Opera Colorado, and Central City Opera, as well as the Piccolo Festival in Friuli, Italy. He also serves as Associate Professor of Voice and Director of Opera and Musical Theatre at Boise State University.

For Macbeth, Seppala returns to the role of Macbeth's trusted friend and fellow warrior who also becomes entangled in the same prophecy as Macbeth, but chooses a different path.

Meet our Macduff. Tenor Bernard Holcomb takes on one of Verdi’s most compelling characters in the Eugene Opera’s Macbeth.

Holcomb’s career has taken him from the world premiere of The Central Park Five to Porgy and Bess, Rigoletto, and the Metropolitan Opera. He has also appeared on stages from Carnegie Hall to Dresden’s Semperoper, bringing a wide range of characters to life along the way.

As Macduff, he stands against Macbeth’s tyranny and becomes a force in the fight to restore Scotland.
