Most practitioners run one medium head for everything. It's what came with the tool, and there's never an obvious day to go buy another. But head geometry decides whether percussion actually reaches the point you're working. A fine extra-firm tip concentrates force into a small area — that's what gets you into a deep, well-defended trigger point in the glute or the QL, where a broader head just pushes the whole muscle around. A broad soft head spreads that same force out, which is what you want over superficial tissue, over bone, or on a client whose nervous system guards against anything sharper.

Work the whole body with one head in the middle and you're under-reaching on the deep points while over-treating the sensitive ones. Neither failure announces itself. You just get slower results and blame the technique.
