Open Communities
Open Communities strives to create more inclusive communities by ensuring everyone has equal access to safe, stable housing.
Open Communities creates more inclusive neighborhoods by ensuring everyone has equal access to housing. Our programs include foreclosure prevention, housing counseling services, first-time home-buyer education, community housing rights education, and fair housing supports so everyone can access a safe, dignified home. Open Communities works to eradicate housing discrimination and unjust practices that perpetuate segregation and inequity. We foster thriving, inclusive communities through fair housing enforcement, housing counseling, education, outreach, and advocacy. Open Communities does not discriminate in admission to programs or treatment of employment in compliance with appropriate state and federal statutes.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!
¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana!
My work at Open Communities goes far beyond celebrating Hispanic Heritage for a single month. To me, it represents an ongoing commitment to our community throughout the year.
I feel honored and privileged to be able to serve people who need our services and who often feel more comfortable expressing themselves in Spanish. Because it's not just about the language we speak; it's about really seeing people, listening to their stories, and trying to understand them from their essence, their experiences, and their needs.
At the same time, it is beautiful to see how in many parts of the country Hispanic Heritage Month becomes an opportunity to raise the visibility of our Hispanic community, honor our contributions, and recognize that we are a fundamental part of the history, present, and future of our country.
This year, more than ever, I want to raise my voice and tell my community: Let us not lose faith or hope. Together we are stronger.

¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana!
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

We look forward to sharing more as we celebrate this year's theme “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together" from September 15 to October 15.

In the US, it is illegal to discriminate against someone based on their national origin.
This means that landlords can’t treat renters differently because of where they were born, their culture, language, or accent.
If you or someone you know is experiencing housing discrimination, please call or email us: (847) 501-5760 or [email protected]
