The 988 Su***de and Crisis Lifeline provides free, confidential emotional support by phone, text, or chat, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for anyone in the United States. You do not need a diagnosis or a moment of crisis to reach out.

The number of young people dying by su***de has gone down since the launch of the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline in 2022. That's the conclusion of a recent study in the journal JAMA. Researchers observed 4,300 fewer su***des in the 2 1/2 years following the launch compared to what they'd projected from previous years' trends. (NPR)

Provisional data from CDC's National Center for Health Statistics indicate there were an estimated 69,973 drug overdose deaths in the United States during 2025—a decrease of almost 14% from the 81,313 deaths estimated in 2024. More of this work needs to be done to keep up the trend that has these numbers in decline the past 3 years. One overdose death is too many, especially to the loved ones who have experienced this loss.
