Plant Seeds, Know Shade. Shade Makers are individuals who live by the principle of paying it forward.

We are leaders who were able to rise above adversity and impossible odds - thanks to a hand up from the ones who came before us.

Sometimes being given more room to grow means taking time to adjust first. Don’t mistake the transition for stagnation. 🌱

New environments take adjusting to. New seasons do too. Even plants need time to settle into new soil before they begin growing again.

Give yourself that same grace.

“A Valley is just a space between two mountains”

Some valleys ask us to slow down.
To look around & notice the light that still finds its ways.

We can hold the hard things, and still make room for wonder.

Gratitude doesn’t mean ignoring the valley, it just means refusing to believe the valley is all there is.

Because there is another mountaintop ahead.

A valley is only a space between mountains.
When we find ourselves in these spaces it can become even easier to play the comparison game with what we see on social media, but its in the valley where we’re also given the space to trust the call on our life. The valley can become a space where we can humble ourselves and open our hearts to the teachable moments during the climb up to the next peak.

We’re not always going to be sitting at the mountaintop, and so, while we find ourselves in a space that doesn’t look exactly like we were expecting it to, we can remind ourselves and recognize that the valley is only a space between two peaks, and even in the valley there’s still a ground where flowers bloom.

Happy Shade Sunday Friends 🌱

Sometimes growth asks us to do something that feels surprisingly uncomfortable: outgrow the things that once kept us safe.

The coping mechanism that helped you survive a difficult season.
The identity you built around being strong.
The walls you needed before you knew how to set boundaries.

The version of yourself you became because, at the time, you had to.

Psychological flexibility invites us to notice when those patterns are no longer serving us—and to become willing to respond differently.

And self-authorship asks us to take that one step further:
Who do I want to become when I’m no longer letting my past write the story for me?

Growth isn’t about rejecting who you were.
It’s about giving yourself permission to evolve.
You can be grateful for the armor and still decide you don’t need to wear it forever.

Like the hermit crab, sometimes the next stage of growth requires you to shed the shell that no longer fits.

Shed. Grow. Make room.

Then ask yourself:
What am I ready to release, and what do I want to make room for next?

End-of-Week Reflection đź’

This week’s ShadeMaker Sunday reminded us that growth isn’t just found in our victories—it’s often found in the moments that stretch us the most.

Sometimes what feels like a setback is actually preparing us for what’s next. When we choose to reflect instead of dwell, we can uncover lessons that help us grow.

Looking back on this week, what experience challenged you the most — and what did it teach you?

Share your thoughts in the comments—we’d love to hear what this week taught you. 🌱

What if we’ve been trying to be the whole forest, when we were only ever meant to be one tree?
Somewhere along the way, we’ve been taught that strength looks like independence—that success means carrying it all on our own, having all the answers, and never needing anyone else.
But that’s a heavy way to live.
The truth is, one tree can’t create the kind of shade a forest can.
On its own, a tree has limits. But when trees grow together—when their branches overlap and their roots support one another—they create something far greater than any one tree could ever accomplish alone.
Maybe that’s true of us, too.

We spend so much time trying to prove we can do it all that we forget to recognize the people around us. We compare instead of connect. We compete instead of collaborate. We focus on standing out instead of standing together.

But real impact isn’t found in pretending we can be everything. It’s found in acknowledging the people around us, valuing what each person brings, and recognizing that we were never meant to create shade alone.

This Shademaker Sunday, we’re exploring what it means to stop pretending we’re the whole forest and start appreciating the trees around us. Because when we grow together, support one another, and embrace community, we create the kind of shade that no one person could create alone. Real shade isn’t created by one tree. It’s created together.
