The news is a LOT better for the weekend forecast. Our Sunday storm stays far enough south that rain chances have been lowered. Let's hope it stays that way! Check back. But one thing is for sure: Summer is here for the first days of October, but not for long.

➡️ Clouds will begin to break this afternoon and we'll see sun 🌞 after over 4 days in a row of no widespread sun. The fall jacket is needed initially, but break out the shorts for late week as summer comes back for a couple days. Rain chances remain for Sunday. ☂️

▶️Our nor'easter is finally departing away from the region. However, one more round of minor coastal flooding is expected for the first high tide cycle today. You'll need the rain gear for the first half of the day with showers continuing alongside a gusty breeze.

Wind gusts have been impressive along the Jersey shore shore so far. Power outages are expected and occurring. Leaves are still GREEN on trees. No good.

A nasty nor'easter track will enhance major coastal flooding issues today along the Jersey shore. Beaches will be reshaped and sand dunes will be eaten away in some cases.

A powerful nor'easter is bearing down on New Jersey and the region. High winds, heavy rain and coastal flooding a big concern. Will have live updates all morning long on News 12 New Jersey!

Coastal Storm vs Nor'easter? Is there a difference?

Not really - it's just that many people think there's an expectation of a huge snowstorm. That's not the case.

A Nor'easter is any storm that develops on the east coast of the United States with the primary impacts along the coast resulting from the northeasterly wind.

A coastal storm/nor'easter's proximity to the coast matters! This will determine if impacts are just coastal or not. For example, sometimes nor'easters deliver lots of flooding, high surf, and erosion at the coast with sunshine inland.

Today is the one day this week with many hours of sunshine. Tuesday through Thursday is gloomy, windy, and unsettled. Friday and Saturday may feature a coastal storm, but confidence is LOW on timing. Coastal flooding, rain & wind a concern. Stay tuned!
