🌟 Recovery Is Possible: Kelly’s Story 🌟

Kelly’s journey to recovery hasn’t been easy. After years of struggling with alcohol use, she experienced job loss, homelessness, hospitalization, and relapse. But she continued reaching out for help and refused to give up on herself.

Through detox, treatment, and Steppingstone’s Women’s House, Kelly connected with Recovery Coach Toni and RSN Aiyana, who supported her as she worked toward stability and a life in recovery.

With their support, Kelly completed CNA training, secured housing through the YWCA, and continued building her future through the Peer 2 Peer New Bedford Recovery Coach Project.

On October 13, Kelly will celebrate two years sober.

“Recovery has given me a life I never thought I could have. I am proud of how far I have come, and I continue to take my recovery one day at a time.”

We are so proud of Kelly and grateful to be part of her journey. Recovery is possible, and no one has to walk the road alone.

💜 Together for Su***de Awareness, Prevention & Remembrance 💜

Our New Bedford team recently joined the New Bedford Police Department, community partners, families, survivors, and community members for an evening dedicated to su***de awareness, prevention, and remembering those we have lost.

The evening was a powerful reminder that su***de prevention requires more than awareness. It takes strong partnerships, accessible support, compassionate listening, and communities where people feel safe enough to say, “I am not okay.”

We are grateful to be part of a community that continues to show up for one another, honor those we have lost, support those who may be struggling, and strengthen the connections that can help save lives.

Your story matters. Your voice matters. You are not alone.

💜 “You have to have hope. It does get better, and I’m living proof.” 💜

For one Steppingstone consumer, the journey to recovery began at just 14 years old, when alcohol gave her a feeling she had been searching for — a way to escape anxiety and feel like she belonged.

What started as drinking quickly became an addiction. Over the years, substance use impacted her relationships, employment, mental health, and sense of self. She experienced multiple detoxes and relapses, and after losing her mother to cancer at 34, she knew something had to change.

“I was really just sick and tired of being sick and tired. I knew the way I was living was no life. I wanted to change this time.”

That decision led her to a sober house, where she stepped outside of her comfort zone and became willing to accept guidance and support. She began attending meetings, found a sponsor, and connected with Toni, a Recovery Coach at Steppingstone’s Peer 2 Peer Recovery Support Center in New Bedford.

Through Peer 2 Peer, she found encouragement, hope, resources, and a community that helped her navigate recovery. She also began attending the music therapy group, where she discovered a new outlet and learned to play guitar.

🎸 “This was very therapeutic.”

Today, she is celebrating one year of sobriety and building a life she once struggled to imagine. She has transitioned out of the sober house, is living with her father alongside a supportive roommate, continues attending meetings, and holds herself and others accountable in recovery.

Reflecting on the past year, she shared:

“Life has given me so many gifts in just this one year of sobriety. It is truly amazing. It hasn't been easy, but I wouldn't trade any of it for a drink or a drug. I now have a life that is actually worth living.”

Her story is a powerful reminder that recovery doesn't have to happen alone. Support, connection, willingness, and hope can make a difference — even when the road isn't easy.

To anyone who is struggling, she has one message: Have hope. It does get better.
