California just signed SB 296, expanding the property tax exemption available to qualifying 100% disabled veteran homeowners.
Starting in 2027, qualifying veterans may be eligible for an exemption equal to 50% of the first $1 million in value of their primary residence. For qualifying lower-income disabled veterans, that exemption can increase to 100% of the first $1 million. Eligible surviving spouses may also qualify.
As a retired Marine after 25 years of service and now a REALTOR®, I get pretty fired up when I can bring these two parts of my life together and get important information in front of our veteran community.
There are eligibility requirements, so make sure you verify your specific situation with your county assessor.

🇺🇸 CALIFORNIA VETERANS: THIS IS IMPORTANT
California just signed SB 296, expanding the state’s property tax exemption for qualifying disabled veteran homeowners.
Beginning in 2027, qualifying 100% disabled veterans may be eligible for a significantly expanded property tax exemption on their primary residence. There are specific eligibility requirements, and the exemption can vary based on factors including household income.
As a retired United States Marine after 25 years of service and now a REALTOR®, this is exactly the kind of information I want to make sure our veteran community knows about and can utilize!
I’ll be breaking down SB 296 in a video later today and talking more about what it could mean for California veteran homeowners.
