Save 1 CPR started with one student at a time, right in my living room.

I'm Amanda Zimmerman, a retired paramedic and the owner of Save 1 CPR. I started the business in 2012 after looking for a way to earn some extra income while working in EMS. CPR instruction seemed like a natural fit, but what I thought would be a small side business kept growing. Today, we provide CPR and first aid training in Ferndale and Southgate, offer mobile training for groups and organizations, and have expanded into nurse assistant training.

What hasn't changed is why I enjoy doing this. I get to take the experience I gained as a paramedic and help other people feel more prepared when their skills may be needed. And you don’t have to learn alone.

Save 1 CPR regularly works with parenting groups, couples, family members, and groups of new parents who want to learn together. Sometimes that means a classroom with five strollers parked inside, and those can be some of the most enjoyable classes.

We’ve heard some memorable things at Save 1 CPR, but my favorite might be the caller who asked whether we teach the “Heineken maneuver.” I knew what they meant, and it still makes me smile.

Our choking practice vest has brought a few surprises, too. It sends a small foam piece flying when students practice, and the first time we used it, the student wearing it was facing the rest of the class. Everyone learned something that day, including me.

Save 1 CPR’s Basics for Babysitters Blended Learning Course is designed for teens who are beginning to babysit or care for younger family members. The $48 course combines flexible online education with practical, instructor-led skills training.

Students begin with an online course and quiz before completing a short skills session with an instructor. Training covers important babysitting fundamentals, including child safety, diapering, first aid, CPR, and how to respond when a child is choking.

All training materials are included, and students receive a certificate from Save 1 CPR, LLC. The CPR and first aid skills taught are approved through the American Heart Association Family & Friends course. This is a Save 1 CPR course certificate and should not be described as an American Heart Association certification.
