Nine Baldwin County high school students wrapped up their summer internship at Riviera last week!

"I've never done this kind of work before, and it was really eye-opening to learn what goes into building utilities and see how power gets to our homes behind the scenes," said Casey Pritchett, Foley Linecrew Intern. "I'm thankful for everyone who encouraged me along the way and for the opportunity to explore a career I might not have considered before this internship."

We're sad to see them go, but excited for what the future holds! Congratulations to each of these kiddos on their accomplishment! πŸ“šπŸ¦ΊβοΈπŸ§‘

All kinds of essential services are buried underground β€” gas, electric, communications, water, and wastewater are all just inches below ground. No matter the project, make sure you call or click Alabama 811 to have your underground utilities located and protected before you start digging! πŸͺ

We're keeping an eye on Tropical Storm Bertha as it passes by Lower Alabama over the next few days. While Bertha is not predicted to be a very strong tropical storm, you still need to keep an eye on the weather and pay attention to what's happening in your neck of the woods.

🌊 Beaching and boating are not going to be a great idea for the next few days. Our service area will experience storm surge, rip currents along our beaches, strong wind gusts up to 50+ mph, periods of heavy rain, and potential flash flooding.

πŸ–οΈ If you're here on vacation, there are plenty of things to do instead of swimming at the beach. Check out Visit Alabama's Beaches for ideas and keep your family safe!

πŸ‘€ Whether it's a tropical system in the Gulf or an afternoon pop-up thunderstorm, always stay weather aware, have a plan, and be prepared! Even thunderstorms like we had this past Sunday are strong enough to send your trampolines flying, bring tree limbs down, and cause damage to our system.

Check out these housekeeping reminders before the weather rolls in. Stay safe out there! πŸ§‘πŸ’›

Time flies when you're working hard! πŸ€ͺ

This summer, our interns have been learning what it takes to provide essential services to our community. From building a regulator station to installing a new street light and capturing all the stories in between, these kids have been busy! Every piece of inventory sorted and every drop of oil changed is all part of building the knowledge, skills, and experience they'll take with them long after summer ends. πŸ§‘πŸ’›
