The Foley Public Library is a nationally recognized award-winning library that strives to
serve our diverse community in the best manner possible. Additionally, the Foley Public
Library is a member of the Baldwin County Library Cooperative (BCLC). We want to
encourage all of our patrons to understand as stated in the BCLC Policy Manual
Handbook, โThe presence of material in the library must not be construed as a personal
endorsement of their contents by any member of the staff, the Library Board, or the
County Commission. The library has a responsibility to collect materials expressing a
variety of views and opinions.โ
The City of Foley and the Foley Public Library recognize the concerns that parents and
other members of the public have about the intellectual growth of their children. This
includes concerns about the material being read by children and about the free access
to information guaranteed to Americans. Some parents may want their children to have
access to some of these books and others may not. It is the parentsโ prerogative and
duty to decide what material is suitable for their children at any given stage in their lives. At the Foley Public Library, no child 15 or younger may check out a book without a
parentโs approval. The City of Foley leadership wants to ensure the Foley Public Library is a safe place
that provides information to all members of its diverse community. We do this by taking
steps to continually empower all families to uphold their beliefs for their children. We will
continue to evaluate our policies and will make every effort to address all the concerns
of our citizens.

Hurricane Isaias continues to strengthen in the Gulf, with significant impacts expected across coastal Alabama from Friday into Saturday. Residents are strongly encouraged to complete storm preparations today.
According to the National Weather Service Mobile/Pensacola's 5:30 a.m. briefing, Isaias could approach major hurricane strength while over the central Gulf before making landfall somewhere along the northern Gulf Coast Friday night or early Saturday morning.
While the exact track remains uncertain, damaging winds, heavy rainfall, flash flooding and tornadoes are becoming increasingly likely across our area.
โ ๏ธ CURRENT WARNINGS AND WATCHES
Hurricane Warning: In effect for coastal Alabama, including Baldwin County.
Flood Watch: In effect from 1 p.m. Friday through 1 p.m. Saturday.
Storm Surge Warning: In effect for coastal and bay areas of Alabama and northwest Florida.
๐ง๏ธ EXPECTED IMPACTS
Damaging Winds: Tropical-storm-force winds could arrive along the coast as early as late Friday morning, with the most likely arrival Friday evening. Downed trees, debris and widespread power outages are possible.
Heavy Rainfall and Flooding: Rainfall totals of 3โ6 inches are expected across the region, with locally higher amounts possible. Some coastal locations could receive up to 10 inches. With the significant rainfall our area experienced last weekend, additional rain could quickly lead to flash flooding, especially in low-lying and poorly drained areas.
Storm Surge: Life-threatening storm surge of 5โ7 feet is possible in coastal Baldwin County and Mobile Bay. This threat is greatest along and east of where the storm makes landfall.
Tornadoes: The risk of tornadoes is increasing, particularly Friday night into early Saturday morning.
Dangerous Coastal Conditions: High surf and life-threatening rip currents are expected throughout the weekend.

FOLEY, AL - Foley Sister Cities is kicking off October with celebrations honoring a major milestone in international friendship and peace. In celebration of Sister Cities Internationalโs 70th Anniversary, events include a city proclamation, a month-long library exhibit, and the inaugural Oktoberfest Golf Jamboree. The activities will highlight Foleyโs partnership with Hennef, Germany, and the lasting community connections built between them.
The celebration will coincide with Sister City International Day on October 14, commemorating the vision launched by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956. Eisenhower believed that friendships between communities in different countries would promote cultural understanding and help build a more peaceful world.
Foley has embraced that vision through a sister-city partnership with Hennef, Germany. Over the past four years, Foley has hosted three Oktoberfest 5K Runs, launched the Oktoberfest Golf Jamboree, organized four student exchanges, an adult exchange, and published an international intergenerational cookbook. Looking ahead, future initiatives include arts and cultural programs, adult global leadership exchanges, and more.
The City of Foley will formally recognize Sister Cities International Day with a special proclamation during the City Council meeting on Monday, October 5, honoring the global friendships and cultural exchanges that unite communities across borders.
Celebrations will continue throughout October at the new Foley Community Library. The month-long interactive exhibit will offer visitors an inside look at Foleyโs relationship with Hennef, featuring photos of the city of Hennef and German countryside, slideshows of past exchange trips, artwork, and information on how local residents can get involved.
On Friday, October 23, 2026, the Foley Sister Cities Commission and title sponsor Riviera Utilities will host the inaugural Foley Sister Cities Oktoberfest Golf Jamboree at GlenLakes Golf Club. While golf teams and major sponsorships are sold out, tickets are still available to the public for the evening Oktoberfest celebration ($35). Running from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the event features authentic German food, beverages, and a live seven-piece German band. Proceeds directly support Foley Sister Cities projects and ongoing exchange programs.
โSeventy years ago, President Eisenhower recognized the power of people connecting with people,โ said Mayor Ralph Hellmich. โFoleyโs friendship with Hennef represents how this vision continues today.โ
"Sister Cities is about much more than cities - it is about friendships, cultural understanding and creating connections that last a lifetime, from generation to generation,โ said Linda B. Spangrud, Executive Director of Foley Sister Cities. She believes with all her heart and soul that Foley is doing just that.
During the festivities, the Foley Sister Cities Commission will also honor two retiring founding Commissioners for their leadership and dedication: Ms. Jada Duffy, Assistant Principal at Foley High School, and Dr. Michael Roy, Associate Director of Elementary Schoolsโ Bands. Both served as vital pillars during the organizationโs formative years.
About Foley Sister Cities Commission:
The Foley Sister Cities Commission exists to promote cultural, educational, and commercial relationships through international leadership, friendship and understanding developing citizen diplomacy. Ultimately, โBuilding Peace Through Peopleโ.
