$410 for an “annual reporting fee”?

Heartland (owned by Global Payments) is at it again with another fee increase.

This comes right on the heels of the $495 “technology upgrade” fee they pushed on merchants not long ago.

Here’s the pattern we keep seeing:

- Acquire a competitor’s portfolio

- Rebrand it

- Raise pricing

- Count on many merchants not noticing

And the kicker... this $410 charge is per location. If you’re running multiple locations, that adds up fast.

They’ll frame it as a response to “economic conditions,” but let’s be honest: it’s just another example of corporate greed.

Even more telling, the notice includes a clause that says: “If you object to this fee, you may terminate without penalty.” Translation: we know it’s unreasonable, but you’re free to leave if you don’t like it.

Merchants deserve better than being treated like a revenue stream for junk fees.
