Celebrating 50 years of El Centro and the Black/African American Cultural Center (BAACC) at Colorado State University, building community, shaping leaders, and creating a thriving home away from home on campus.

The centers trace their roots to Project GO – short for Generating Opportunities – an effort that started from student and community activism during the Civil Rights Movement. Today, B/AACC and El Centro foster community and provide educational programming, student development and other resources for all interested students.

Grown by Rams, for Rams 🐏

Each year, the Growing Food Security project and more than 200 student volunteers help to fight food insecurity by harvesting 20,000+ pounds of fresh produce at the CSU Agricultural Research Development and Education Center (ARDEC). The produce is then donated to Rams Against Hunger, providing locally grown vegetables to the CSU community.

Food insecurity affects college communities across the country, and we're proud that our Rams are working together to address it here at home 💚

As the leaves on the Oval begin to turn, there's something special about gathering for our annual Fall Address and University Picnic 🍂 🐏

“The great democratic promise of a public higher education is that knowledge should not be the province of the privileged few. It should be pursued at the highest levels and shared broadly across geography, circumstances and across generations. That’s why access and excellence will never be competing ideas at CSU. Our responsibility is to hold both aspirations at once." - CSU President Amy Parsons

During her address, she described the work our faculty do as both difficult and indispensable. She also spoke about CSU entering the fall season with great momentum by bringing in more than $613 million in research funding, continuing top rankings for sustainability, welcoming one of the largest, most academically qualified classes of first-year students in CSU history, setting a new record for student retention last year, seeing graduation rates that continue to climb, celebrating 50 years of El Centro and the Black/African American Cultural Center, and CSU's first year in the Pac-12.

Wait - why does CSU host a picnic every fall? 🤔

When the Spring Creek Flood of 1997 inundated Fort Collins and the CSU campus that year, it flooded the Lory Student Center Theatre, where the annual address was traditionally held. Because of the damage, the address was relocated to the Oval and a picnic was added as a thank you to the community for pulling together in the aftermath and recovery efforts.

Today, it's still one of our favorite fall traditions. Learn more: https://col.st/eu5tf 🔗
