The time is now! Help name our new Educational Ambassador π¦
Voting for her new name is only $1 per vote, and you can vote as many times as you like! The top three names are...
π³ Willow - Tree with long, flexible branches that bend without breaking, honoring her story of adaptability and resilience.
π Nova - Meaning "new" or a brightening new star, honoring her beautiful star-like plumage.
βͺ Pearl - Meaning "hidden beauty" or "prosperity" and a precious gemstone connected to the moon, honoring her species' naturally pale feathers and nocturnal nature.
Vote NOW! rmrp.org/BarnOwlNaming
This American Barn Owl came to RMRP in July from Pueblo, where she was rescued by the team at the Raptor Center at the Nature & Wildlife Discovery Center when her nest was crushed when she was only days old. Both of her legs were broken, and constant medical care from such a young age resulted in her imprinting onto humans, leaving her unable to survive in the wild.
She is fully healed and healthy, and we are excited to give her a second chance at life educating the public about Barn Owls and environmental conservation for years to come.
Voting opens today (9/25/26) and will run until Sunday, October 25th.
Oh look, an Eastern Screech Owl! π
Each year, Eastern Screech Owls like Cedar go through a catastrophic molt - where they drop all of the feathers on their head at once to make space for new feathers to grow in. This process is painless, and rest assured she grew back a fresh new 'do as beautiful as ever!
Want to learn more about owls? Join us in one month at our Owl-O-Ween Open House! Live raptors, costumes, educational displays, and more on Saturday, October 24 from 12 - 4 pm, completely free to the public. We hope to see you there!
Cedar is a non-releasable Educational Ambassador at the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program.

We all need a helping hand - or, err, net... π€
Many of the calls we get are for injured or orphaned raptors that we bring to our facility, but sometimes raptors get themselves trapped and just need a little assistance.
Earlier this month, we got a call from Livermore Fire Protection District Station 4 about a Cooper's Hawk that had tried to join them as a new recruit. After getting into their warehouse, it became confused and was unable to leave. After contacting our rescue hotline, one of our team members was able to lend a helping hand to safely encourage this hawk to leave. Watch along with Carrie, RMRP's Director of Research and Rehabilitation, as she successfully encourages this hawk to leave the building without harming the bird or any of the fire station's equipment.
Calls like these are ones we don't always get to highlight. Our incredible Rescue and Rehabilitation team works hard 365 days a year, going out into our community to help raptors, bringing some in (and ushering some out) - keeping our wild neighbors wild.
