It's that time of year again. New schedules, new teachers, new social dynamics, and for a lot of kids (and parents), a new wave of anxiety.

Back-to-school stress is real and it shows up differently for everyone. Stomachaches before the bus comes. Meltdowns over the "wrong" backpack. Teens who suddenly go quiet about their day. Parents running on fumes trying to hold it all together.

If your household is feeling the back-to-school crunch, you're not doing anything wrong. Transitions are hard, even good ones.

We're here to help kids, teens, and families navigate this season. We accept most major insurance carriers, Colorado Medicaid, and Ohio Medicaid, and we offer sliding scale fees for anyone without insurance coverage.

Weekend reminder: healing isn't linear, and neither is recovery from trauma or BPD.

Some days will feel like progress. Some days will feel like square one. Both are part of the process, and neither one means you're failing.

If you're having a hard weekend, be gentle with yourself. And if you've been thinking about reaching out for support, we're here when you're ready. We accept Colorado Medicaid, select Ohio Medicaid plans, and most commercial insurance.

Something we want every client to hear at least once:

You are allowed to take up space in this world with your feelings.

Trauma has a way of teaching people to shrink, to apologize for needing things, to doubt their own reality. If that sounds familiar, you are not alone, and you are not too sensitive, too much, or asking for too much.

Our approach is trauma-informed from the very first appointment. That means we believe you, we go at your pace, and we don't ask you to prove your pain to get support.

We're currently accepting new clients and accept Colorado Medicaid, select Ohio Medicaid plans, and most commercial insurance plans.

If you're living with Borderline Personality Disorder, you've probably heard a lot of things about yourself that weren't true. That you're manipulative. That you're dramatic. That you're "too much."

Here's what's actually true: BPD often develops as a response to real pain, real invalidation, and real trauma. Your intense emotions aren't a character flaw. They're a nervous system that learned to protect you the only way it knew how.

Our team specializes in trauma-informed care for BPD. That means we start from a place of understanding, not judgment.

We accept Colorado Medicaid, select Ohio Medicaid plans, and most commercial insurance. If you've been putting off reaching out because you weren't sure you could afford it or find someone who "gets it," we're here.

Your trauma is valid. Your pain is real. And healing is possible.

One of the hardest parts of trauma recovery is learning to stop blaming yourself for how you responded to something that hurt you.
Your reactions made sense. Your nervous system was doing its job. Healing isn't about erasing the past -- it's about building a kinder relationship with yourself moving forward.
At Open Arms Counseling and Transition Center, our trauma-informed therapists meet you where you are -- without judgment. We have immediate openings and proudly accept Medicaid and multiple insurance plans, because access to quality mental health care shouldn't be a barrier.
You deserve support.

When anxiety or trauma responses hit, grounding can help bring you back to the present moment. Try this:
Name 5 things you can see.
Name 4 things you can touch.
Name 3 things you can hear.
Name 2 things you can smell.
Name 1 thing you can taste.
This simple exercise works by anchoring your nervous system to right now -- not the past, not the fear. Just this moment. Attached is a few graphics that also include a breathing exercise.
If you find yourself needing more support than grounding exercises can offer, our team is here. Open Arms Counseling and Transition Center has immediate openings, and we accept Medicaid and most insurance plans.

Trauma doesn't just live in our memories. It lives in our bodies -- in tension, in fatigue, in a nervous system that learned to stay on high alert to keep us safe.
Healing from trauma often means learning to feel safe in your own body again. That's not a quick fix. It's a process, and it's one you don't have to go through alone.
Our therapists at Open Arms Counseling and Transition Center are trained in trauma-informed approaches and are accepting new clients now. We accept Medicaid and most major insurance.
Take the first step today.

Mindfulness isn't about clearing your mind or forcing calm. For trauma survivors, it's about learning to notice what's happening in your body and your thoughts -- without judgment, and without being swept away by them.
Small moments of awareness can be powerful steps toward healing.
At Open Arms Counseling and Transition Center, we specialize in trauma-informed care and we have immediate openings. We proudly accept Medicaid and many other insurance plans.
You don't have to keep waiting to feel better. Reach out today.
