Whoa, Man! are one the most popular bands in town, and they're using their platform for a good cause Sunday, Oct. 11, at Baker Street Centre for the third annual She Rocks the Fort.
Joined by female-led businesses, vendors, and bands Reload, Bad Moon Duo, Gracie Jo, ta'korei, oxenfree, Jenn Shook Band, and Gem, money raised from the event will go toward the latest Jennifer's Harbor initiative, Abie's Haven, a short-term home for women escaping abuse or human trafficking.
“We’re just kind of stepping in and kind of supplementing what (Jennifer's Harbor founder Deb King’s) already done there, but it is extremely exciting to be a part of,” said organizer Sunny Taylor of Whoa, Man!.
“I put out a call to female-fronted bands for this specific event and just got a huge amount of people saying, ‘Hey, I can do this.’ And even people who aren’t necessarily musicians, they’re like, ‘What can we do to help?’ ”

If you're looking for an event a bit out of the ordinary, look no further than the Huntertown Mini Renaissance Faire taking place from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sept. 26 at Huntertown Family Park.
“It started off with us calling it a Mini Ren Faire,” organizer Heather Krempel said. “It’s really not quite as mini as we thought originally. Now we have artisans and markets. We have lots of food vendors, including turkey legs and mead. We have some buskers coming, and I’m super pumped about Medieval Equestrian Games. We will be having horses and they are supposed to be doing a joust.”

The Purdue University Fort Wayne Department of Theatre opens its season tonight with the campy sci-fi play "Devil Boys From Beyond."
“I say that it’s basically like if 'Mars Attacks' crash landed into a 'Days of Our Lives' episode,” director Austin Rausch said.
The production, which runs through Sunday, Oct. 3, was originally going to be held at Williams Theatre. However, due to flooding at the theater, it will now be held in Studio Theatre at Kettler Hall.

We're just a couple days away from the Cinema Center 50th anniversary block party, which is set for 5 p.m. until "the credits roll" on Friday, Sept. 25.
“We’re in this weird space where we’re seeing a lot of theaters in the nation going out of business, and with the rise of streaming, there’s just so many entertainment options and a lot of people are consuming movies from home more often," said Molly Conner, development director. "So, that’s why it’s extraordinary for us to be here for 50 years because film, as an experience, is really meant to be consumed in a shared space."
The evening will feature a free outdoor screening of "Back to the Future," while "The Big Sleep" will be played inside, as will Dolly Parton's "9 to 5," which will cost $6. There will also be performances by Fort Wayne Dance Collective, Broken Pencil Improv, live painting by Madeline Miller, a story slam, and food trucks.
