MISSION: Activate. Equip. Mobilize. Transform. September of 2002, a group of city leaders connected a few churches with elementary schools in central Fresno.

The primary purpose was to provide an outlet where the students at these schools could interact with positive role models during the weekend. It also provided an opportunity for volunteers from these churches to build relationships with the students. As volunteers spent more time in these communities they became aware of two specific issues. First, the test scores of the students were consistently in the bottom end of all the elementary schools in Fresno Unified. Second, the percentage of the families living at or below the poverty line was higher than most communities in the city. What started out as a small sports program evolved into a ministry that addressed these issues, including literacy, mentoring and community outreach events. Volunteers from the church became more connected to the neighborhood while discovering many opportunities to be involved in the lives of the community. Other churches began asking about these partnerships and how they might do something similar. Every Neighborhood Partnership (ENP) was formed in January 2008 with a desire to see ministries like these replicated throughout the city.

Imagine your daughters are headed to school on a typical morning, and you receive a call saying they were hit by a car.

Bernadita's daughters were on a scooter when a van hit them near Columbia Elementary School. One girl fell near the tire of the van. Both girls are doing okay today, but the fear Bernadita felt that morning has motivated her to share her story and advocate for change.

Our streets are not always safe for students, which is why Every Neighborhood Partnership (ENP) joined Bernadita and her neighbors, safe2schoolinc, and Fresno Unified Community Schools for a walk audit around Columbia Elementary. It's also why we support legislation like Yes on Measure S which allocates funding to repair dangerous intersections in our city.

Safer streets are possible, but Fresno needs people willing to be part of the solution.

How do we know if our programs are making a difference?

Randy White recently led the ENP staff through a training focused on outcomes, helping us think beyond tracking data to better understand impact and program effectiveness.

Moving forward, this will help us better measure what’s working, learn where we can grow and tell the story of the impact happening through ENP.
