Meet Minkah, Ale Jurado, Noel Yang, Christopher Teng Vang, tsim+nuj vang, Melody Martinez, Cecilia Cantu and Joshua Slack; they will bring their own individual perspectives, art practices and experiences as artists to engage in a common conversation about this single question: What is your relationship with America? Using spoken word performance, dance/movement/physical theater, storytelling/dialogue and community discussion; the artists invite us to share the complexities of that question together.

When? TONIGHT - September 18
Time? 6:00-8:00 PM | Doors open at 5:30 PM
Location? St. Dulce | 1445 N. Van Ness Ave., Fresno

Come for the art! Stay for the conversation!

To See the Beauty of My People

Fresno State’s LGBTQ2+ Student Support invites you to experience a restaging of To See the Beauty of My People, an exhibition honoring the strength, creativity, and history of Fresno’s LGBTQ2+ community.

Presented in partnership with St. Dulce and Casita Feliz, with support from the LGBTQ+ Allies Faculty and Staff Network and the Center for Creativity and the Arts, this restaging is a tribute to Sylvia Rivera’s dream.

First debuted at Fresno State, the exhibition brings new work by acclaimed artist Jay Lynn Gomez together with pieces created by Fresno State students and community members. Gomez’s new painting featuring Van Ness Village makes this return especially meaningful, bringing the exhibition back to the community and neighborhood at the heart of this work.

Join us for this special restaging of To See the Beauty of My People as we honor Sylvia Rivera’s legacy and celebrate the living history of Fresno’s LGBTQ2+ community.

The evening begins at Casita Feliz with Nuestras Raíces, a community photo exhibit highlighting Latine trans and q***r history in the Central Valley. Following the exhibit, we’ll walk together through Van Ness Village from Casita Feliz to St. Dulce, connecting the histories and places represented in the work.
