The -BER months are HERE 🍂 and this year I’m determined to be proactive instead of reactive 😂

Because somehow every year September hits and then I blink and we’re in the middle of Halloween costumes, school things, fall activities, Thanksgiving, Christmas gifts, traditions, parties… ALL OF IT.

And I love this time of year way too much to spend the whole thing feeling behind.

So this year we’re starting early. Making the lists. Getting things done before they have to be done. Planning the fun before the calendar fills up. And hopefully leaving a little more room to actually enjoy all the things we’re planning. 😂

Will I still inevitably be running around looking for something at the last minute? Absolutely.

But we’re TRYING 😂👏🏼

Here’s to the -BER months!! The best time of the year is officially here 🤎

I thought our beach homeschool unit ended when we packed up the car and left Florida… but apparently the lesson followed us all the way home. 😂🌊

We were walking through H-E-B when the kids spotted the seafood counter and immediately stopped.

“WAIT… is that an octopus?!”

And suddenly grocery shopping turned into school.

We started pointing out the shrimp we had learned about, looking at the different fish, talking about which animals live on the ocean floor, comparing shells, remembering what we saw on our trip and asking approximately 400 questions before I could even make it to the next aisle. 😂

And THIS is becoming one of my favorite parts of homeschooling.

I’m realizing that learning doesn’t always have to happen sitting at the kitchen table with a worksheet in front of us.

Sometimes it happens barefoot on the beach.

Sometimes it happens while watching dolphins jump beside a boat.

And sometimes it happens with two little kids hanging over the side of a grocery cart staring into the seafood case at H-E-B.

The beach trip may have ended, but their curiosity didn’t.

And I think that’s exactly what I want their education to feel like — learning enough about the world that they can’t help but notice it everywhere they go. 🥹

Turns out our little “Magic School Bus” homeschool might include a few more field trips to the grocery store than I originally planned. 😂💛

SAVE + SHARE 🎪 The circus is in Dallas THIS WEEKEND!!

We got to see Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey and I think my favorite part was how much they brought back the SILLY of the circus. 😂

Of course there were the huge “HOW DID THEY JUST DO THAT?!” moments, incredible performers and stunts… but there was also so much goofy, laugh-out-loud humor mixed throughout that my kids were cracking up.

It felt nostalgic in the best way — just really wholesome, totally family-friendly FUN where the kids were entertained and the adults were having just as much fun watching them. ❤️

💛 WHY I LOVED IT
The HUMOR!! I loved that they leaned into the silly side of the circus again. Bello Nock is also back with Ringling, and between the comedy and crazy stunts, it felt like the kind of show the whole family could genuinely enjoy together.

💛 PERFECT FOR
A family date night, something special with the grandparents, a birthday surprise or just one of those “the circus is in town, WE HAVE TO GO!” childhood memories.

🚨 I HAVE MADE A TERRIBLE THRIFTING MISTAKE. 🚨
So there I was… casually walking through the thrift store, minding my own business, when I spotted this brass sea shell platter.

I picked it up.
I looked at it.
I admired it.
I contemplated my life choices.

And then…

I PUT IT BACK. 🤦‍♀️

At the time I thought, “Eh… it’s cute, but what am I going to do with a giant brass shell?”

Fast-forward to me posting about it and reading the comments…

Y’ALL. 😳

Apparently I may have just casually walked away from a VERY valuable vintage piece.

The comments are basically a support group for my poor decision-making:

“YOU SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT IT!”

“That was worth $$$!”

“I would have grabbed that immediately!”

“GO BACK!!!”

Meanwhile I’m sitting here like…

THE SHELL WAS IN MY HANDS.
I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY.
AND I BLEW IT. 😂😭

I swear thrifting is the only hobby where you can leave the store feeling like you made a perfectly reasonable decision… only to find out later that you just rejected someone's retirement fund for $8.99.

So now I need to know:
