Walnuts May Improve Overall Diet Quality.
A two-year randomized trial found that older adults who ate 1–2 ounces of walnuts daily—accounting for about 15% of daily calories—developed a less inflammatory dietary pattern than the control group that did not consume walnuts.

Living Near a Park Linked to Less Back Pain in Older Women.
Using data from the Study of Osteoporotic Fractures, researchers found that 61.6% of older women living within one-eighth of a mile of a park reported back pain during the previous year, compared with 71.1% of those living more than half a mile away.

About 1 in 133 Deaths Worldwide Are Due to Pancreatic Cancer.
A recent analysis of international data sets estimates that in 2022, there were more than 510,000 new cases of pancreatic cancer and 467,000 deaths from the disease, meaning pancreatic cancer accounted for roughly 0.75% of all deaths worldwide that year. Without improvements in prevention or treatment, these numbers are projected to continue rising through 2045.

Resistance Training May Benefits Knee Osteoarthritis Patients.
Isotonic resistance training is exercise in which muscles contract against resistance while the joints move through a range of motion, such as during squats, curls, or push-ups. A systematic review of 20 randomized controlled trials involving 791 participants found that isotonic resistance training may reduce pain, improve function, and increase muscle strength in people with knee osteoarthritis.

Neck Pain May Also Affect Upper-Extremity Function.
A study of 80 women—half with non-specific neck pain—revealed an association between neck pain and worse hand strength, functional performance, reaction time, and self-reported arm, shoulder, and hand disability. These findings highlight the potential value of assessing upper-extremity function rather than focusing solely on the neck when evaluating patients with neck pain.

Low Vitamin D Linked to Depression Severity.
A recent study that included 97 adults with major depressive disorder found that 61.9% had vitamin D serum levels below 20 ng/mL, which were associated with more severe depressive symptoms, greater suicidal ideation, and higher su***de probability scores.

Certain Flavonoids Linked to Lower Stroke Prevalence.
Using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey concerning more than 12,400 adults, researchers observed that a high intake of anthocyanins—a type of flavonoid found in berries and other red, blue, and purple fruits and vegetables that support blood-vessel function and reduce inflammation and oxidative stress—was associated with up to a 31% lower risk or stroke.

Insufficient Sleep May Be Linked to High Blood Pressure.
Sleep assessments of more than 15,600 older adults revealed that those who routinely slept fewer than six hours a night were 1.3 times more likely to have hypertension than seniors who averaged 6 to 9 hours of sleep each night.
