iDigBio
iDigBio is coordinating the national effort to digitize biodiversity specimens and make them available online, funded by NSF grants to UF, FSU, and KU.
Integrated Digitized Biocollections (iDigBio) is the central resource for the Advancing Digitization of Biodiversity Collections (ADBC) program funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). iDigBio is a collaborative project between the University of Florida and Florida State University, and is based at the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville. Through ADBC, data and images for millions of biological specimens are being made available in electronic format for the research community, government agencies, students, educators, and the general public. The University of Florida, Florida State University, and Florida Museum of Natural History intend to educate, inform, and provide updated information on iDigBio's activities and to support and promote iDigBio's objectives for these activities through its social media. All iDigBio comments are made by iDigBio designees. This site is not a public forum. Social media users may share ideas through commentary that is consistent with and furthers the objectives of an iDigBio post and the University of Florida, Florida Museum of Natural History, and iDigBio reserve the right to remove any comments that do not fall within this purpose.

Beyond the Jar: Challenges, Innovations, and Opportunities in Digitizing Fluid-Preserved Specimens
October 6, 2026 2:00–3:00 PM ET
Wet specimen collections hold incredibly valuable records of biodiversity, but they can also be some of the most challenging collections to digitize. This webinar will explore practical approaches to imaging fluid-preserved specimens, developing efficient digitization workflows, managing labor-intensive collections, and balancing efficiency with data quality.
Speakers:
Elizabeth Ellwood, iDigBio
Alana Rivera, Museum of Comparative Zoology, Harvard University
Dean Pentcheff, Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County
Paul Callomon, Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University
