Gainesville water rescue team called in to help with central Texas flooding response

At the request of the Texas State Operations Center via Texas A&M Task Force 1, Gainesville Fire-Rescue deployed on July 12th, 2026 to support a coordinated flood response across Texas.

GFR deployed a five-member Swiftwater Rescue team along with two apparatus and two rescue boats.

The team is operating in coordination with various local, state, and federal agencies to support affected communities and ensure public safety.

Members of TX-TF1 are supporting various critical missions and are actively engaging in water rescues and evacuations in response to ongoing flooding.

Congratulations to Lieutenant Jake Chambers on his Promotion and 15 Years of Service!

Jake began his career with Gainesville Fire-Rescue in 2011 and has spent the past 15 years serving our department and the citizens of Gainesville with professionalism, integrity, and dedication. Throughout his career, he has remained committed to continuous learning, operational excellence, and serving others.

For the past 11 years, Lt. Chambers has been an active member of our Swift Water Rescue Team, gaining extensive experience in technical rescue operations and emergency response. He holds certifications as an Advanced Structural Firefighter, Fire Investigator, Fire Inspector, Officer I, Instructor I, and Rope Rescue Technician. He has also completed multiple Incident Command System courses, providing a strong foundation for leading during complex emergency incidents.

In addition to emergency response, Lt. Chambers has served in Fire Prevention, participated on several departmental committees, and contributed to Gainesville University, helping develop personnel and support the continued growth of our department.

"I am committed to serving with professionalism, humility, and a servant's heart. I am prepared to lead with integrity, make sound decisions under pressure, and promote a culture of teamwork, safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. My goal is to help develop the next generation of firefighters while ensuring Gainesville Fire-Rescue continues to provide the highest level of service to the community we are privileged to serve," said Lt. Jake Chambers.
