Aging-in-place design has a reputation problem, and it is about a decade out of date.
Curbless showers. Grab bars in brushed gold that double as towel bars. Lever handles. Wider doorways. Every one of those is an accessibility decision. Not one of them looks like it.
Done right, nobody walking in would call it accessible. They would just call it beautiful.
Our new blog, How to Design a Luxury Aging-in-Place Home in Raleigh (Without Sacrificing Style), covers the full room-by-room breakdown and real investment ranges.

Three questions worth asking any remodeler before you sign. Including us.
Most homeowners compare bids. Almost nobody compares answers, and that's where the real difference lives.
The three we'd want asked: who's on my site every day, what happens when something behind the wall surprises us, and can I talk to someone you finished eighteen months ago?
That last one is the real test. Anyone can produce a happy client from last month.
Swipe for why each one matters π

More Raleigh families are putting three generations under one roof. Almost none of them planned for it. π‘
It usually starts as temporary. A parent moves in after a hospital stay. An adult kid comes home for a year that turns into three. Then everyone quietly rearranges their life around a house that was never built for it.
An addition designed for this looks nothing like a spare bedroom.
Swipe for what actually makes it work π
The version that works gives everyone a door they can close. That's the whole design problem, and it's solvable.

If your house is gray, you're not behind. But gray is done. π¨
The 2026 design reports all land in the same place: the cool-gray era that ran the last decade is over. What's replacing it isn't a color. It's a temperature.
Swipe for what's moving in π
Here's the part that matters more than the list. Gray dated fast because most people chose it to please a future buyer, not themselves.
The remodels that hold up are the ones designed around the people actually living in the house. That's been true for 30+ years, and it'll be true for the next ten.
What color is your kitchen right now? No judgment. π

Today's the day we say it out loud.
Labor Day gets treated like the last weekend of summer. It started as something else: a day set aside for the people who build things.
We work with them every day. The tile setter who kneels for eight hours to make a pattern land right. The finish carpenter who won't accept a joint you'd never have noticed. The painter who comes back to fix something nobody asked him to fix.
30+ years of award-winning work in Raleigh, and none of it was done by a logo. It was done by hands.
To everyone in the trades, thank you. Enjoy the day off.
Happy Labor Day. πΊπΈ

Nobody tours your primary bath. Everybody uses the powder room.
It's the one room in the house every guest visits alone, with the door shut and nothing to do but look around.
In most homes, it's also the room that got skipped. Builder-grade vanity, builder-grade mirror, the light fixture that came with the house.
Here's the part people miss: it's the smallest square footage you own. The tile, the stone, the fixture you could never justify across an entire primary bath are completely within reach in a room this size.
Small room. Disproportionate impression.
Swipe for what a powder room refresh actually involves π

August is gone. Here's what's still on the table for this year.
The window to complete a new kitchen by Thanksgiving has passed
But "too late for a kitchen" isn't "too late for anything." Projects that can still be finished before the holidays:
βοΈ Mudroom and built-in storage
βοΈ Powder room or guest bath refresh
βοΈ Kitchen facelift - fronts, counters, backsplash, hardware
βοΈ Interior features - fireplace surrounds, built-ins, custom trim
And if you're thinking bigger - a basement, an addition, a whole-home - starting the conversation now means you design through the winter and build in the spring, instead of joining next summer's rush.
Either way, the next step is the same. One free conversation.

The first kickoff is August 29. Where's everybody watching? π
If the answer is "crowded around the living room TV while somebody stands in the kitchen doorway," your basement is the fix.
Not "finished square footage." A room built for how you actually watch a game:
πΊ A wall sized for the screen you actually want, wired before the drywall goes up
πΊ A wet bar or beverage center so nobody's running upstairs on third down
ποΈ Tiered or sectional seating where every seat sees the screen
π Sound insulation, so the game stays downstairs
π» A half bath is the upgrade every host tells us they wish they'd done
Seven home games at Carter-Finley this fall. Kenan Stadium's 100th season. That's a lot of Saturdays.
We'll be straight with you: start now, and it's not ready for this season. But next August, you're not the one scrambling; you're the one everybody's texting for the address.
