Bluegrass Burro Rescue

Here is an update on Daphne and Shaggy, the two rescued from a killbuyer. Daphne’s tail is so much better. No hair growth yet, but no longer an oozing sore. She’s trying so hard to heal, both mentally and physically.

Our current donkeys here in Georgetown, KY, that are available or will be soon:

-Jed and Jethro (only go together)
age 6 and 8. Bonded pair, I will not separate. Great with livestock. They love our goat and let him eat their grain. Good with cats too.

-Churro BLM B***o (not ready yet) age 3
Still wild, but not mean at all. Now that weather is (hopefully) cooling down, we can get his tag off and get him handleable. The goat is fine around him.

-Chico BLM B***o age 3. Also still wild, but bravest of the bunch. He will eat out of my hand. Goat and cat are fine around him too.

-Daphne and baby Shaggy. They need a lot of rehabilitation and training before being available.

-Rose and Blanch (only adopted together) age 8 and 5 They MUST have a dry lot available to them. Not negotiable! Well trained and come with all of their supplies.

-Norma Jean and Bugsy
age 2 and 3. Best friends, can we find them a home together? Used to children, goats, chickens, etc. Very friendly and would be great for kids wanting to join 4-H.

I’d say she’s living her best life! From Texas killpen, to living the high life in KY, THIS is why we do what we do! I can’t love this enough, and it gives me motivation to keep fighting for these donkeys. 💙💙💙

Be on the lookout! Two donkeys were stolen in Ohio (not ours). The owner asked us to keep an eye out for them!

Good morning! I am putting our adoption application here as I think that I need to clarify that we are a rescue. We are not a sale barn. We are not a breeder. We don’t sell animals.

I’m seeing comments on my posts of “I’ll take that one.” “I will take all three.”
“I want that one. Etc. Etc. No, no you won’t. You won’t “take that one.”

There are places where you can go buy an equine. You won’t here. You need to fill out an application to adopt. Then please tell me you sent in the application. If you have questions or problems filling it out, message me. I will try my best to go through the applications as soon as I can.

We spend hours upon hours helping these donkeys and horses. Thousands of miles on my old truck going to get them. We spend thousands of dollars of our own money rehabilitating them, as donations don’t begin to cover our expenses. I shed tears over their pain and fear. I’ve seen the horrors that people can inflict upon innocent animals, things that keep me up at night, smells that never leave my brain.

So yes, you will be checked out. You will need to meet the donkey or horse. You will get questions about your intentions. If you have a stud on your property, please go elsewhere. Go to a sale barn or killpen and see why we don’t need more unwanted animals.

-Diva, a Shetland pony only going as a companion animal

Please note:
I am in the middle of moving my daughter and her co-workers starting tomorrow. I will get to all of your messages, but it will take me a bit to get through them all (there are MANY). The owners will want to inspect your facility, so out of state adoptions will not work for these two girls. We have other donkeys and miniature horses that are able to be adopted out of state. Thanks for your patience!

Sometimes things don’t go as planned. We thought we had the two mini donkeys, Rose and Blanch going to a great home. The person backed out because they got a new horse that attacks their ponies.

There is a reason for everything, so as disappointed as I am, these cuties are available through no fault of their own.

Requirements:
A shelter
Safe fence
A dry lot
A vet
A farrier
No abuse in your records.
Donkey knowledge is a plus, but we can help you learn what donkeys need.

If you send in an application, please let me know. If you are approved, there will be a non-refundable deposit to show that you are serious about adopting them. I spend a lot of time and energy going through applications, and don’t want this to happen again. It’s not fair to their owners, not fair to the donkeys, and not fair to me.

If you don’t get approved, don’t take it personally. It just means that one of the owners’ and my requirements aren’t met.

These girls are currently in Elizabethtown, KY. They may be coming here to the rescue to make it easier on the owners.

They have names! I sat there with them, and thought how shaggy the baby is. Bingo! Shaggy and Daphne! (Who doesn’t love “Scooby Doo” ?😂) When I said Daphne out loud, she popped her head up!
