Georgetown proposes sidewalk cafes, patios for downtown businesses After a year of gathering feedback and working out details, Georgetown city staff on September 8 presented city council with a proposed two-year pilot program that would allow downtown businesses to create removable outdoor seating areas on sidewalks and street parking spaces.

1) Downtown Café Program – Council authorized staff to move forward with the program to allow a few downtown businesses to build and utilize outdoor decks that the businesses will construct and install through our pilot program, allowing them to have outdoor seating. In the future, we will also roll out a sidewalk program for areas where it makes sense for businesses to utilize some of the sidewalk area. These programs have worked well in other cities with historic downtown areas, and while we will be cautious in rolling it out, it could create some great opportunities for our local businesses.
2) Drainage Fee – We are updating our drainage fees to ensure that we stay up to date on our drainage and flood prevention infrastructure. We often think of water, wastewater, and electric utility infrastructure, but drainage infrastructure is just as important when we are preventing flooding and maintaining our water quality standards.
3) Woodside MUD Amendment and Yearwood In-City MUD – Two new development son the northwest side of town continue to move forward. It’s a testament to our staff and the vision we have set for Georgetown that developers are opting to come into the City, rather than develop just outside out city limits. Both of these developments are high quality and will be assets to our community, with Woodside being a continuation of Sun City and Yearwood reclaiming an old quarry for a master-planned subdivision.

🚧Construction on Williams Drive begins September 14th.

Improvements include installation of a landscaped median replacing the existing center turn lane on Williams Drive, with median openings and left-turn bays at limited locations. Sidewalks will also be built to fill the current gaps.

This will create a four-lane divided roadway with a continuous sidewalk from I-35 to Serenada Drive.

The project is funded by the 2021 road bond that passed with 67% voter approval.
