Preserving the Heritage of the Hammock Coast: 2023 Paint Analysis Project
In 2023, the Kaminski House underwent a professional paint analysis to better understand the colors and finishes used throughout the home over time. Like an archaeological dig, small paint samples were carefully taken from select areas and examined under a microscope, revealing layers of finishes from different periods in the house’s history.
One of the primary questions was determining the shade of green used during the Kaminski era, 1931–1972. The analysis provided a closer look at the historic finishes from this period and helped guide the repainting of the rooms to more closely reflect their historic appearance.
Projects like this help us uncover more about the history of the Kaminski House while preserving its historic character for future generations!

✨ Preserving the Heritage of the Hammock Coast ✨
Brick Removal: Phase 2
Following the removal of the later-added brick, the second phase of the Kaminski House preservation project focused on restoring the materials revealed beneath it. Wooden clapboards were restored or replaced where needed, with replacement boards milled to match the original. Windows and shutters were also restored or replaced as necessary, creating a stronger and more weather-resistant exterior for the historic home.
Completed in March 2015, the project represented a significant investment in the long-term preservation of the Kaminski House and its historic character!

✨ Preserving the Heritage of the Hammock Coast ✨
In 2014, the Kaminski House undertook a major preservation project to remove brick that had been added to the exterior of the historic home and was contributing to long-standing moisture issues.
The project required careful planning and extensive examination of the property before work could begin. The first phase focused on removing the brick and revealing the original structure beneath it, while the second phase addressed any damage uncovered during the process.
This work was an important step in protecting the historic fabric of the Kaminski House and ensuring that its architecture and history could be preserved for generations to come.
