It’s been an amazing time at the Harlan Independent Schools elementary and middle grades. Wonderful students and wonderful staff! So thankful for Jon, Barbra, and Partners for Rural Impact for having me come.
I worked with the middle schoolers this week and they did the zip line and rubber band powered cars. The emphasis I try to make is how Lego is such a versatile material to work with that engineering challenges like these can be done very well with Lego bricks. Experimenting and modifying designs to accomplish the goal is what we do. The zip line challenge was to create a car that could safely ride down a zip line that went across the entire room. The car challenge was to modify a rubber band powered car to see how far you can make it go. The school record was 61 feet! Imagine building a car out of Legos and using a rubber band to make it go 61 feet! That’s what they did! The Green Dragons are amazing.

Who’s coming to see us?! 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️

Our Brick Mobile was serving students in Harlan, KY so we had a pitch hitter show up for the parade at the Best of the Bluegrass festival in Georgetown KY. So much fun!!

We had such a great time at Harlan Independent Schools grades 1-4 the past two days. During the day I went over the Tower Tumbler engineering lesson and the tallest tower made was 42 inches. During Thursday night a bunch of families showed up to build these dragon wings. Their mascot is the Green Dragons and I think these wings turned out very well!! They are about 5 feet tall and total 20,000 pieces. The Brick Mobile will be heading next door to the middle school next week! Thank you to Partners for Rural Impact for making it all possible!
