Greene County: Lane closures have been scheduled on SR 44 as part of our Phase 1 widening project. Work will take place near milepost 8 (close to Taco Bell). These will be single lane closures with a flagging operation. The closures will allow the contractor to install a storm drain.

Schedule:
Wednesday, September 16: 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Thursday, September 17: 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Friday, September 18: 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Expect delays and use caution when navigating the area. Slow down and watch for workers.

This morning members of GCFR, GCEMS, and GC 911 joined hundreds of first responders, public safety personnel, and military members to climb Stone Mountain in honor of the brave men and women we lost on 9/11. 🇺🇸 We are thankful for this yearly tradition and the opportunity to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you to all that came! 🤙🏼

September 11, 2001, a day that forever changed our nation.

Today, 25 years later, Greene County Fire Rescue remembers the 2,977 lives lost, including the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while running toward danger to save others. We honor the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, military members, and everyday Americans who showed the world what courage, sacrifice, and unity truly look like. May we never forget the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes who gave everything that day and in the years that followed.

This morning, GCFR C-Shift responded to a residential house fire with E12, E11, E13, Batt 1, T2, T9, GCEMS M12, and EMS 1.

E12 arrived on scene to find a single-story, single-family residence with heavy fire showing through the roof from the rear of the home. E12 immediately initiated an aggressive interior attack while Batt 1 assumed Command. T2 established the water supply, and E11 conducted a primary search.

The fire progressed quickly, causing extensive damage to the bedrooms and attic. E13 assisted with overhaul and salvage operations.

Thankfully, all occupants safely made it out of the residence with no reported injuries. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents with their immediate needs.

A huge thank-you to GCE911, GCSO, GCEMS, and all of the responding volunteer firefighters for their hard work, teamwork, and dedication.

Today, we gathered to remember, celebrate, and reflect on the life of Battalion Chief Chris Eddy , truly one of the best to ever do the job. May we always remember what this day is about, hold those we love a little tighter, love a little more, and never take a single day for granted.

We had hoped to officially open the REDDY Drill Yard today, but the process has taken a little longer than expected. When the burn building is complete, we will have a special ceremony worthy of Chief Eddy and the legacy he left behind.

Chief Eddy, we miss you down here more than words can say. Continue to watch over us, and we promise to continue carrying on your legacy the right way! May we never forget! 🤙🏼 #1106

Over the past three days, GCFR, GCEMS, and GCE911 participated in specialized pediatric training focused on trauma care and water emergencies. This valuable training strengthened our knowledge, enhanced interagency coordination, and reinforced our commitment to providing the highest level of care to the children and families we serve.
A special thank you to the Grady Trauma Division for providing outstanding instruction and to Reynolds Lake Oconee for allowing Greene County to utilize Reynolds Landing for the hands-on water rescue training. Strong partnerships and collaboration make all the difference, and we are grateful for the relationships that help us better serve our community.
