🚒 Welcome Fire Marshal Jason Lee!

The City of Greer Fire Department is proud to announce that Jason Lee will become the City of Greer’s new Fire Marshal on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Jason brings more than two decades of fire service experience, with a career spanning emergency response, fire inspection, fire investigation, code enforcement, plan review, fire protection system testing, and leadership. Most recently, he served as a Senior Fire Inspector with Bluffton Township Fire District.

His extensive professional credentials include Certified Fire Marshal, Fire Inspector, Fire Plans Examiner, Certified Building Official, Fire Investigator, and Fire and Life Safety Educator, along with numerous IFSAC, Pro Board, ICC, National Fire Academy, NAFI, IAAI, and CPSE credentials.

Jason holds a Master of Science in Public Safety – Fire Administration, a Bachelor of Science in Fire Administration – Fire Investigation, and an Associate of Applied Science in Fire Science.

His dedication to the fire service has been recognized through numerous awards, including the Medal of Merit, Unit Citation, Johnny Fender Award, and Staff Employee of the Year from Bluffton Township Fire District.

We are excited to welcome Jason and his family to the City of Greer Fire Department and look forward to the experience, leadership, and expertise he will bring to our Fire Prevention efforts.

Over the last three days, the City of Greer Fire Department had the privilege of hosting Blue Card Incident Command certifications at our new Public Safety Training Facility. Congratulations to Engineer Jake Sims, Engineer Evan Williams, and four members of South Spartanburg Fire District on successfully completing the three-day Blue Card check-offs.

Effective incident command is the foundation of safe and successful emergency operations. Through realistic scenarios and performance-based evaluations, participants strengthened their ability to manage incidents, communicate clearly, and prioritize firefighter safety.

We appreciate South Spartanburg Fire District for participating alongside us and value the opportunity to train together as we continue to strengthen our ability to serve our communities.

This week, Battalion 41 and Engine 56 took part in the East Greenville Automatic Aid Group’s Third Quarter training at the City of Greer Training Tower.

Training alongside Engine 15 (Boiling Springs Fire District), Engine 20 (Clear Spring Fire District), Engine 58 and Truck 55 (Pelham-Batesville Fire Department), Quint 43 (Lake Cunningham Fire Department), Engine 83 (Taylors Fire Department), and Engine 151 (Tiger River Fire Department), crews focused on Rapid Intervention Techniques (RIT), working through firefighter rescue scenarios, mayday operations, and coordinated multi-agency response.

Getting together to train with our automatic aid partners builds stronger relationships, sharpens critical skills, and helps ensure we’re ready to operate as one team when the call comes.

Today, crews from Station 41 (C-Shift), along with Division Chief Means, Deputy Fire Marshall Hipp, and Greenville County Emergency Management conducted our annual pre-incident planning walkthrough at the Greer Commission of Public Works (CPW) Water Treatment Plant.

Pre-incident planning plays a critical role in ensuring our firefighters are prepared to respond safely and effectively to emergencies involving critical infrastructure. During the walkthrough, crews reviewed facility operations, identified potential hazards, discussed access points, located key utilities, and refreshed response protocols unique to the site.

These annual visits strengthen our partnership with the Greer Commission of Public Works and help ensure we have the knowledge needed to protect both the facility and the community we serve.

A special thank you to the Greer Commission of Public Works staff for their continued partnership and commitment to public safety. Training and preparation today help us provide a safer, more effective response tomorrow.

Today, Battalion 41 (C-Shift), Division Chief Means, and Medical Training Coordinator Ruggiero joined the Greer Police Department, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, Greer High School Administration, Greenville County School officials, and numerous other community partners for a tabletop exercise focused on active assailant responses.

Exercises like these are essential to strengthening coordination between public safety agencies, school officials, and community stakeholders. Participants worked through realistic scenarios, discussed response strategies, identified areas for improvement, and reinforced unified command, communication, and life-saving response protocols.

Preparing for these low-frequency, high-consequence incidents requires strong partnerships and a shared commitment to planning before an emergency occurs. By training together, we build the relationships and coordination necessary to provide the safest and most effective response possible should our community ever face such a critical incident.

The City of Greer Fire Department is proud to stand alongside our law enforcement, education leaders, EMS, Emergency Management, and community partners as we continue working together to keep our schools, students, staff, and community safe.

This past week, several members of the City of Greer Fire Department successfully completed the Safe Kids Upstate Child Passenger Safety (Car Seat Technician) Course.

By becoming Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians, these firefighters have received specialized training to inspect, install, and educate caregivers on the proper use of child safety seats. Studies consistently show that many car seats are installed or used incorrectly, making this training an important part of protecting children traveling in our community.

The City of Greer Fire Department has proudly provided child car seat inspections and education to our community for many years. By adding more certified technicians, we are strengthening our ability to continue offering this important service and ensuring families have access to trained professionals who can help keep their children safe.

🚒 👨‍🚒 Relief Driver Complete

Congratulations to Firefighter/EMT Bodie Henrie (Tower 41/C-Shift) today on successfully completing his Relief Driver qualification on Engine Companies.

Although Bodie is assigned to Tower 41/C-Shift, he is now qualified to serve as a relief driver on Tower 41 or any of our four Engine companies throughout the city when operational needs require. Whether covering for a driver/operator when they are off, filling a vacancy, or allowing an Engineer to move up into the officer role; having qualified drivers who can step into these roles helps ensure our companies remain staffed, in service, and ready to respond.

Driver/operators play a critical role in every response. Their responsibilities extend far beyond driving the apparatus and include apparatus placement, pump operations, water supply, and supporting the crew throughout the incident. Completing this qualification reflects Bodie’s commitment to continuing his professional development and being prepared to serve wherever he is needed.

🚒 Probation Complete ✅

Congratulations to Probationary Firefighter/EMT JW Pitts (Engine 41/B-Shift), Probationary FF/EMT Dallas Callahan (Engine 41/B-Shift), and Probationary FF/EMT Aiden Marshall (Engine 56/B-Shift) on successfully completing their probationary skills check offs yesterday.

These firefighters have completed the department’s probationary training program while demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and professionalism expected of every member of the City of Greer Fire Department. Through daily company training, hands on evaluations, and countless hours of learning alongside their officers and crews, they have built the foundation needed to begin the next stage of their careers.

With the successful completion of their probationary requirements, they officially exchanged their orange probationary passports for the black passports of their assigned engine companies. This milestone marks their transition from probationary firefighters to fully assigned members of their companies and reflects the hard work and dedication they have invested throughout the process. While probation may be complete, their commitment to training, learning, and professional growth will continue throughout their careers.
