🎉 We’re excited to share some wonderful news!
Spirit Horse Ranch has been selected as a 2026 recipient of the Richard A. Shaw Fund Grant from the Omaha Community Foundation!
The Richard A. Shaw Fund supports programs that reflect Richard Shaw’s lifelong appreciation for education, nature, and animals, with a preference for programs involving equine therapy, making this recognition especially meaningful to us and the work we do at Spirit Horse Ranch.
We are incredibly grateful to the Omaha Community Foundation () and the Richard A. Shaw Fund for investing in our mission and helping us continue creating meaningful opportunities for connection, healing, and growth through our horses.
We’re honored to be among this year’s recipients and excited for what this support will make possible. Thank you for believing in the work happening at Spirit Horse Ranch! 💛🐴

Okay, Spirit Horse Ranch friends...we have NEW GEAR! 👀
Our online shop has apparel, hats, bags and more, so you can support Spirit Horse Ranch AND represent the Ranch while you're at it.
Need a new hat? We've got you.
Need a bag? Yep.
Need another shirt even though the closet suggests you technically don't need another shirt?
We support that decision. 😂
Every purchase is another way to support the mission and work of Spirit Horse Ranch—and we think the new gear looks pretty good, too.
Take a look and find your favorite here:

And if you order something, we want to see it! Tag us or drop a photo in the comments when your SHR gear arrives. 🐴❤️

Starting your Christmas shopping early? Or maybe you're just placing another Walmart order because somehow your household has run out of everything at the exact same time. 😅
Either way, there's a really simple way to make those regular purchases do a little extra good.
Through Walmart's Spark Good Round Up, you can choose Spirit Horse Ranch as your preferred nonprofit and round your online purchase up to the nearest dollar. Those extra cents are donated directly to support our mission.
Here's how:
1️⃣ Visit Walmart.com
2️⃣ Log into your account
3️⃣ Search for Spirit Horse Ranch under Spark Good
4️⃣ Select us as your preferred charity
5️⃣ Turn on Round Up at checkout
That's it!
A few cents may not seem like much, but when a whole community does it together, those pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters start adding up.
So if you've already started the Christmas shopping...first, we're impressed. 😂🎄 Second, we'd love it if you'd choose Spirit Horse Ranch along the way.
Small change. Big impact. 💛🐴

🔥 Meet Tango: The Brave Heart of Spirit Horse Ranch 🔥
Say hello to Tango, our 13-year-old gelding born in Arkansas and one of the most inspiring horses in the Spirit Horse Ranch herd. He may not come from a fancy pedigree, but Tango is proof that greatness isn’t defined by papers; it’s defined by heart, resilience, and the courage to heal.
Tango is a talented, athletic barrel racing horse, still actively competing at local rodeos. In fact, he’s the fastest horse on the ranch, flying around the arena with precision and grit. But behind that power and speed lies a story of survival.
Before coming to SHR, Tango suffered mistreatment and lived a life shaped by fear. He was rescued from that environment and given a second chance; achance he has embraced with everything he has. His past left scars that still show up today. He is cautious with new people, hesitant in groups, and takes time to trust.
But once you earn his trust?
Tango will walk through fire for you. He loves deeply, tries his heart out, and brings an unmatched authenticity to the healing space. His eyes speak volumes-sometimes fear, sometimes uncertainty-but they warm with kindness, patience, and connection.
Tango works best one-on-one, where he can build quiet, meaningful relationships at his own pace. For clients who have walked through their own trauma, he is a mirror; honest, vulnerable, and brave. A true diamond in the rough who teaches that healing is not linear… and that strength often grows from places of pain.
We couldn’t be more grateful to have Tango at SHR, showing our clients every day that their past does not define their future. ♥️🐴

Pop quiz: What happens during equine-assisted psychotherapy?
If you pictured someone lying on a couch talking about their feelings while a horse stands nearby...not quite. 😂
A few things you might not know:
🐴 You don't have to know how to ride.
In fact, meaningful work with horses can happen completely on the ground.
🐴 The horse is part of the process.
Horses are incredibly responsive to movement, body language, energy and what's happening around them.
🐴 There can be a lot of doing; not just talking.
Depending on the goals of the session, participants may groom, lead, observe, complete activities or simply spend time interacting with a horse.
🐴 There's no perfect way to do it.
Sometimes what happens when an activity doesn't go as planned gives us just as much to work with as when it does.
🐴 And yes...it can actually be fun.
Therapy and healing involve hard things, but that doesn't mean every moment has to feel heavy.
Sometimes growth happens through a conversation.
Sometimes it happens standing in an arena next to a 1,000-pound animal who has absolutely no interest in pretending everything is fine. 😉❤️
What does riding a horse have to do with ADHD?
Potentially more than you might think.
Riding asks your brain and body to do a lot at once; but in a way that feels completely different from sitting at a desk.
🐴 Pay attention to what the horse is doing
🧠 Remember directions and sequences
⚖️ Coordinate your body and maintain balance
👀 Notice changes in your surroundings
💬 Communicate clearly
🌿 Stay present in the moment
And then there's the horse.
Horses give immediate feedback. They don't care whether you struggled to sit still in class, forgot your homework or got distracted six times before breakfast. They respond to what's happening right now.
Research into therapeutic riding and other equine-assisted services for children with ADHD is still growing, but studies have found promising benefits in areas including behavior, motor skills and quality of life.
Around here, we see another benefit that's harder to put on a checklist:
Sometimes working on something doesn't feel quite so much like "work" when your partner has four legs. ❤️🐴
