Lawrence Academy is an independent high school in Groton, Massachusetts.

A coed boarding and day school situated on a 135-acre campus in the center of Groton, Massachusetts, Lawrence Academy provides approximately 400 students in grades 9 to 12 with a college-preparatory curriculum that ensures individual attention and fosters personal growth. Established in 1793, it enjoys its heritage as one of the oldest independent schools in the country while embracing a contemporary student-centered approach that supports its mission: “Lawrence Academy recognizes you for who you are and inspires you to take responsibility for who you want to become.”

Over the last two weeks, Lawrence Academy has continued a tradition of hosting a series of dinners for the parents of each grade at Park House. It continues to be a great way for parents and guardians to mingle and get acquainted, hear from school leadership, and chat with faculty about the year ahead.

Every year, Mr. Scheibe and Ms. Montesano work with LA students (usually a rising senior) to create a painting or illustration of Park House, as seen through the student’s eyes. The artwork is then used on the invitation to our fall parent dinners and as décor during those events. Lawrence Academy welcomed renowned slam poet Andre Bradford to campus yesterday. Andre uses spoken-word poetry to create emotional anchors that help audiences truly comprehend and appreciate how practicing more purposeful empathy can improve their relationships, careers, and communities. Last week, our Umoja Club held a Chat & Chew in the MCC to recognize Hispanic Heritage Month. Delicious food was served, and Umoja members hosted a great conversation with attendees about Hispanic Culture.

Yesterday, on Murbach Field, students in Mr. Guerra’s physics class experimented with bottle rockets. The mission? To determine the ideal amount of water to fill one of the rockets to maximize its launch distance. ? Learn, and have fun doing it.
