Midnight Patrol Leads to Arrests and Recovery of Stolen Property

Just after midnight on June 3, Sgt. Kyle Dotson was patrolling the 5100 block of 32nd Street when he observed a physical disturbance and intervened in what appeared to be an assault in progress.

Through his investigation, Sgt. Dotson learned the victim had allegedly been assaulted by multiple suspects, sustained visible injuries, and was robbed of cash and personal property.

Thanks to the quick response of Sgt. Dotson and responding officers, all three suspects were taken into custody, and the victim's stolen property was recovered.

The three individuals were arrested and charged with Robbery, a Second-Degree Felony under Texas Penal Code § 29.02. Additional charges were also filed as part of the investigation.

We commend Sgt. Dotson and the responding night-shift officers for their professionalism and thorough investigation.

All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

With summer underway and more kids spending time outside, we’re seeing e-bikes, electric scooters, mopeds, and other motorized devices throughout our community.

Many of these devices look similar, but different laws apply to each one. The graphic below provides a quick reference on licensing requirements, where they may be operated, and other important rules riders and parents should know.

Taking a few minutes to understand the differences can help keep everyone safe and avoid confusion about what is and is not legal on public streets.

On Friday, we had the privilege of swearing in four new officers to the Groves Police Department.

Each of these individuals comes from a different background, bringing unique experiences, education, and life skills that will strengthen our department and help us better serve the citizens of Groves.

Becoming a police officer is more than a career choice. It is a commitment to service, accountability, and the responsibility of earning the public’s trust every day. On Friday, each officer took an oath to uphold those values and serve this community with honesty, courtesy, and integrity.

Please join us in welcoming our newest officers to the Groves Police Department as they begin their law enforcement careers.

On Sunday, May 24, 2026, Sgt. Thibodeaux conducted a pedestrian contact in the 5200 block of 25th Street.

During the investigation, the subject was identified as Eric Frasier, 47, a Groves resident. Frasier was found to have an active parole warrant and was placed under arrest. Officers also located approximately 30 grams of suspected methamphetamine during the arrest.

Frasier was arrested on the active parole warrant and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, 4 grams or more but less than 200 grams, a Second Degree Felony.

Proactive patrol is one part of the daily work officers do in our community. In this case, the investigation led to a felony drug arrest and the seizure of suspected methamphetamine. We appreciate the continued work of our officers and their service to the citizens of Groves.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Last week, members of the Groves Police Department attended the Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas Back the Blue Brunch, where law enforcement officers from across Southeast Texas were recognized.

We are proud to share that Sgt. Macie Jackson was honored for her actions during a serious crash on September 20, 2025, involving a critically injured citizen.

Sgt. Jackson’s preparation, calm response, and leadership made a difference during a very difficult call. Her actions reflect great credit on her, our department, and the public safety partners who worked alongside us that day.

Outstanding work, Sgt. Jackson. We are proud to have you representing the Groves Police Department.

Traffic Stop Leads to Felony Drug Arrest and Recovery of Stolen Property

On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, Officer Mejia conducted a traffic stop on a black SUV in the 5200 block of Gulfway Drive.

During the investigation, officers located approximately 11 grams of methamphetamine. The driver, Geraldo Guadalupe Peralta Garcia, 42, a Groves resident, was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, 4 grams or more but less than 200 grams, a Second Degree Felony.

The investigation also led to the recovery of stolen property connected to another case in Groves.
