Building resilience from within.

Sometimes healing looks like returning to a place that reminds you where your own story began, and bringing back what you wish someone had given you. 🇬🇹🌿

This week, Resonate Roots had the incredible privilege of bringing 9D Breathwork to Village of Hope in Guatemala.

Village of Hope provides a safe, loving home and community for children impacted by profound trauma. And for me, this mission is deeply personal.

I grew up in a children’s home.

I know that trauma doesn’t only live in our memories. It can shape the nervous system, teaching the body to stay alert, guarded, and prepared for danger long after the danger has passed.

Three years ago, I first came to Village of Hope to serve.

This week, I returned with tools for nervous system regulation, stress resilience, and creating a greater sense of safety within the body.

Talk about full circle. ❤️

God has a beautiful way of redeeming the pieces of our stories we once wished we could erase.

The little girl who needed safety grew up to help others learn what safety can feel like.

This is Resonate Roots.
Turning survival into resilience.
Turning pain into purpose.
One breath at a time. 🌿🫁

There is something incredibly beautiful about Village of Hope

Not because it’s perfect.
Because it’s a place where hope is lived out every single day.

Children who have known unimaginable hardship are surrounded by people who choose love, safety, consistency, and healing. Every hug, every laugh, every meal, every moment whispers the same message:

You matter. You are safe. You are deeply loved.

Being here is a full-circle reminder that God has a way of redeeming even the hardest stories. What once represented pain can become a place of purpose.

I’m so grateful to serve alongside the incredible people at Village of Hope. It is an honor to witness healing, resilience, and hope taking root in hearts every day. 💚🇬🇹

Your nervous system will choose familiar over healthy until you intentionally retrain it.

Ever wonder why people stay in patterns that make them miserable?

Because your nervous system isn’t asking, “Is this good for me?”

It’s asking, “Have I survived this before?”

That’s why chaos can feel comfortable.
Why healthy relationships can feel suspicious. Why slowing down can make you anxious. Why rest can feel wrong.

Your brain is wired to predict and protect; not necessarily to help you thrive.

The beautiful part? Your nervous system is incredibly adaptable.

With intentional practice, you can teach your brain and body that peace is safe, rest is productive, and calm isn’t something to fear.

You don’t have to stay stuck in what’s familiar.

You can train your nervous system to recognize something better.

Trauma & Stress don’t just steal your peace. They steal your ability to play.

After zip lining in Guatemala, I wasn’t injured.

I was shaking. Then I cried.

Why? My nervous system couldn’t tell the difference between thrill and threat.

When your brain has been wired for survival, even positive stress can trigger the same fight-or-flight response as real danger.

The good news? Neuroplasticity means your nervous system can learn that excitement is safe.

That’s how we get joy back.

What’s your most irrational stress trigger? 👀

🚗 Traffic
😮‍💨 Someone breathing a little too loudly
🍽️ Chewing noises
📞 Unexpected phone calls
🛒 Grocery stores
📧 Email notifications

Or is it something even more random? 😂

Drop yours in the comments. 👇

Here’s the interesting part: if everyday annoyances feel like five-alarm emergencies, it might not be because you’re “too sensitive.” A stressed nervous system can become so alert that it starts treating ordinary situations like potential threats.

The good news? Your nervous system can learn to feel safe again. 🌿

This week was… a little unhinged. 😂

✔️ Shingles tried to take me out.
✔️ Guatemala donations and supplies are (mostly) ready.
✔️ The elderberries and pears decided they were ripe all at once.
✔️ I picked up some new skills to become a better business owner.
✔️ And somewhere in the middle of all that… I remembered to breathe. 😅🫁

I’m officially calling this a win.

Now your turn… tell me about your week. Give me the highlight, the chaos, or the plot twist. 👇

Your childhood didn’t just shape your memories. It helped set the sensitivity of your stress response.

That might be why you’re an adult who:

Overthinks everything.
Reads the room instantly.
Feels responsible for everyone.
Struggles to rest without guilt.
Has a BIG reaction to something that seems small.

Your brain and nervous system learned early what they had to do to keep you safe.

Survival patterns are learned and the brain can learn something new. 🧠

Neuroplasticity means we can build new pathways. Nervous system regulation helps your body experience what your adult mind may already know:

You’re not there anymore.

Come give the younger version of you something they may not have had enough of:

Safety. A voice. Permission to let go.

When was the last time you got ridiculously excited about something completely ordinary? 🍐

Today, it was picking pears.

And honestly… that kind of joy matters more than we realize.

When you’ve spent years in survival mode, your brain gets really good at scanning for stress, problems, and what might go wrong. There’s less room for play, curiosity, anticipation, and joy.

Inner child work helps rebuild that capacity.

Through neuroplasticity and repeated experiences of safety, we can teach the brain something new:

Life isn’t only something to survive. It’s something I’m allowed to enjoy.

Sometimes healing looks profound.

And sometimes it looks like being ridiculously excited to pick pears. 🍐😂

What’s something completely ordinary that makes your inner child stupid happy? 👇

Some of your strongest personality traits may actually be childhood survival strategies that never got turned off.

Hyper-independent?
Maybe depending on people never felt safe.

People pleaser?
Maybe keeping others happy kept you out of conflict.

Overthink everything?
Maybe predicting what happened next once protected you.

Always “the strong one”?
Maybe falling apart was never an option.

Your brain learned these patterns for a reason. But a survival response practiced long enough can start to feel like personality.

Inner child work asks a powerful question:

Is this who I am… or who I learned I had to be?

You don’t have to erase the version of you that survived.

You get to teach your nervous system that you have more choices now. 🫁

Survival shaped you. It doesn’t have to keep choosing for you.
