Congratulations to Brigadier General Amy S. Bumgarner — our 2026 Distinguished Alumna for the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences!

A proud Southeastern Louisiana University alumna, Brig. Gen. Bumgarner has built an extraordinary career of leadership and service in the United States Air Force, retiring from the Air Force this August after more than three decades of distinguished service.

A 1991 graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Government and a 1994 graduate with a Master of Arts in History, Brig. Gen. Bumgarner currently serves as Commander of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI), headquartered in Quantico, Virginia. Since commissioning in 1995, Brig. Gen. Bumgarner has held numerous leadership positions, commanded at multiple levels, deployed to Afghanistan, and served in key assignments across the Department of Defense. Her distinguished military career includes numerous awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, and Air Force Meritorious Service Medal.

Her journey is a powerful example of the impact of a Southeastern education and the possibilities that come from a life dedicated to leadership, service, and excellence.

Our GOLD Council met on Saturday to talk all things alumni engagement! They discussed upcoming opportunities for young alumni, ways the Gold Council can continue serving and connecting with our alumni, and helped get things ready for Homecoming weekend - right around the corner on October 15-17! 🦁

We’re grateful for the time, ideas, and Lion spirit our GOLD Council brings to the table. Thank you for helping us keep our alumni community strong!

What a Saturday! Our alumni loaded up the bus and headed to Natchitoches to cheer on the Lions as they took on Northwestern State — and we came home with a WIN! 🎉

Thank you to everyone who joined us, cheered loud, and made the trip so much fun. There’s nothing like hitting the road with fellow Lions! 💚💛
