PM Sabin Swickard if interested (or respond to this thread). Let her know the day and time you'd like to commit to on a weekly basis (from the list below).

BMC is looking for YOU........yes YOU....the incredible individual reading this post!
We are urgently seeking dedicated warehouse volunteers who can commit to just "one" two-hour time slot each week on a consistent basis. Our goal is to recruit approximately ten volunteers for each of the seven available time slots, which means we need around 70 compassionate souls to join our mission.

The time slots are as follows:
Mondays
1 PM to 3 PM, 3 PM to 5 PM, and 5:30/6 PM to 7:30/8 PM

Wednesdays
1 PM to 3 PM, 3 PM to 5 PM, and 5:30/6 PM to 7:30/8 PM

Fridays
5:30/6 PM to 7:30/8 PM

As a volunteer, you'll play a vital role in our warehouse, engaging in essential tasks such as sorting, preparing, and organizing weekly donations. This crucial work enables our outreach teams to effectively distribute resources to those in need on the streets. Additionally, you'll help maintain an organized and clutter-free storefront, ensuring a steady rotation of inventory for our exchange.

The warehouse is located at our headquarters
1321 Mercedes Drive
Suite D
Hanover, MD, United States, 21076.

By dedicating just two hours a week, you'll find yourself immersed in an environment filled with positive energy, and like-minded individuals who share your passion for helping others. Not to mention we blast some pretty great music to sing and dance to while sorting.

This opportunity not only allows you to contribute to a cause that goes beyond personal interests but also offers a profound sense of fulfillment and connection to the community. The experience promises to enrich your spirit and provide a sense of purpose that far exceeds the time you invest. Join us in making a meaningful impact—your involvement can truly change lives for the better....including your own. It's also a great way to network.

Nights will be spent with me, Sabin Swickard while the days are led by the wonderful Carol Wilson

In Loving Memory of Robert Hamlett
May 6, 1952 – August 14, 2026

Our BeMoreCaring family received heartbreaking news this morning.

Our dear friend, Mr. Al, passed away unexpectedly.

It is difficult to even write those words. I just saw Mr. Al at BeMoreCaring on Thursday, and none of us could have imagined that it would be the last time.

For the past several years, Mr. Al simply became part of us.

He showed up. He served. He supported our Comeback friends. Week after week, he picked up our Wawa and Chick-fil-A donations. He was someone we could count on, and he was preparing to take an even bigger role with us by officially joining the BeMoreCaring Board of Directors.

Mr. Al believed in what BeMoreCaring was about. More importantly, he believed in people.

But all of those things only tell part of the story of who he was.

I called him “my FBI guy.”

Mr. Al had spent part of his life working for the FBI, and I loved listening to the stories he would tell me from those years. He’d tell me about cases he’d worked and places he’d been, and of course he would tell me what all those crime shows I watch got right and what they definitely got wrong.

One thing I will always remember is him explaining that when the FBI went through the front door, someone was always at the back door.

I can hear him saying it right now in that wonderful Southern way he had of talking. I don’t think I’ll ever watch one of those shows again without hearing his voice.

For such a physically larger-than-life man, Mr. Al had the gentlest spirit.

His service extended well beyond BeMoreCaring. He also served on the board of CASA and spent time supporting and mentoring young people. His son described him today as “the kindest man” and “a true mentor to so many.”

Those words describe the Mr. Al we knew, too.

There are people who volunteer with an organization, and then there are people who quietly become part of its family.

Mr. Al became family.

He didn’t show up because he needed something to do. He showed up because he believed that people mattered. He believed in our mission, he believed in our friends, and he believed in being there for people.

Please keep his son, his grandchildren, his family, and everyone who loved him in your prayers as they navigate the shock and heartbreak of such an unexpected loss.

We are going to miss you terribly, Mr. Al.

Thank you for every pickup, every story, every laugh, every person you encouraged, every time you showed up, and every piece of yourself you shared with our BeMoreCaring family.

Rest well, my FBI guy. ❤️

It has been a WEEK…the kind that if it could go wrong it did, you know those right?! ☹️

Without hashing out the entire story (because it would literally be a novel 🤣) the brakes locked up on the truck in the middle of distro Wednesday. We had to get it towed back from the city to our repair shop, and we weren’t sure it was even going to be ready for tonight. 😳

Thankfully they were able to replace the faulty ABS sensor which apparently was the culprit 🙄 and we picked it up on the way to the warehouse (yay Mike’s auto!)…justtttt in time for our WV friends to meet us for distro tonight! Potomac Highlands Guild, Inc. joined us for the second year running to do outreach. 🎉
They were incredibly excited about getting back in the mix, asking about several of the friends we serve and anxious to catch up with some of them tonight. 🫶🏼

We had a great run, got to spend some quality time with our peeps and let Heather & Kerigan strengthen their connections a bit. Good conversations were had, shared experience and hope from some fresh faces were exactly what was needed tonight. They also brought ponchos that we handed out with every meal; perfectly timed with the storms moving thru! ☔️

And then we got to show them a little historic Bmore landmark. Fed Hill at night overlooking the city all lit up is beautiful. 😍

The night ended with some comic relief as we got a little silly trying to take a group pic at the warehouse-when I tell you we laughed hysterically at the Heather handstand photo…thank us later. 😂😂😂😂

In case you guys didn't know, August is Overdose Awareness Month. I wanted to share with you guys why this is a personal fight for me, and how BeMoreCaring has supported me and given me a platform and a place where the rubber meets the road.
The people in this picture are my blood relatives who have lost their lives to a overdose. Without this mission and the people here at BeMoreCaring, I was surely on my way to being added to this post in one of these pictures. What we do here really makes a difference. We are constantly searching for resources to better serve our friends on the street. We take out fentanyl test strips, Narcan, and resources with every single one of our runs. We believe the best way to save lives is to help people take that step into a new way of life.
This is 100% my "why." Why I'm here at BeMoreCaring. Why I'm so vigilant in my own recovery.
We have people on the streets who depend on us—who trust that we are going to show up 3 days a week. Who are waiting for their meal, waiting for socks, hygiene kits, blankets, tents, clothes, and shoes. And we show up. Holidays, bad weather, our birthdays... even when conditions are rough, we show up!!
That's why this is the best place to serve for me. Because not only are we meeting needs, we are building relationships. This is where our friends get to see that recovery is possible and that there is someone there they can trust when they are ready to take that first step. I live for that moment. I pray that happens every night I go out.
Thanks to everyone who supports this mission—everyone who volunteers their time and donates resources to help keep this going. We want to help break this terrible cycle of losing our loved ones, family, and friends to something so preventable.
Thanks for taking the time to read. Feel free to reach out to us to learn more about our work or if you have any questions about treatment.
