🎉 Congratulations to Firefighter Doug “Doug Funny” Brown! 🎉

Today is a big day for Doug as he celebrates his 18th birthday and another major milestone in his fire service career!

Doug spent his birthday completing the new Firefighter I training course at HACC, finishing things off with a live burn today. When he returned to the station, Doug was presented with his black helmet, marking the completion of an important step in his training.

Doug joined Swatara Fire-Rescue just over a year ago and has been an asset to the department ever since. He is always looking for ways to help around the firehouse and regularly takes the initiative to work on his skills and improve his abilities as a firefighter.

Please join us in wishing Doug a Happy 18th Birthday and congratulating him on completing Firefighter I and earning his black helmet!

Congratulations, Doug! 🚒🔥

Swatara Fire-Rescue made the trip to Lebanon this morning! Firefighters spent the morning at the Lebanon County Fire School participating in live fire training.

Crews focused on hoseline management, communication, and the interior operations of the Tower Company. These evolutions provided valuable hands-on experience while reinforcing teamwork and operational efficiency.

A big thank you to the Lebanon County Fire School for hosting us and to the burn technicians for providing excellent training evolutions!

Yesterday afternoon, Swatara Fire-Rescue and mutual aid companies were dispatched to the area of Paxton Street and Mushroom Hill Road for a reported vehicle crash.

Due to the condition of the vehicle and the patient, additional resources were requested to assist with the rescue operation. Crews worked together to safely extricate the patient in just under 30 minutes.

Thank you to all of our mutual aid partners and responding agencies for their assistance and teamwork.

☢️ Radiological Emergency Preparedness Training

This morning, the Dauphin County Hazardous Materials Response Team (DCHMRT), along with members of the Dauphin County Decontamination Strike Teams, conducted specialized training at the HACC Evans Gym.

Today’s training focused on Emergency Worker Monitoring and Decontamination for a Radiological Event and served as Part III of a three-part training series for our Decontamination Strike Teams.

Approximately 20 team members and personnel from our participating decontamination companies began with a walkthrough of the facility before breaking into groups for a round-robin rotation covering:

🔹 Vehicle & Equipment Monitoring
🔹 Reception & Portal Monitoring
🔹 Personnel Monitoring & Decontamination

Training like this provides an important opportunity for our teams to work together, strengthen coordination, and build the capabilities needed to support Crane Clean Energy Center (CCEC) emergency preparedness.

A special thank you to Harrisburg Area Community College for hosting us and to all of our Decontamination Strike Team members and personnel who participated and continue to dedicate their time to emergency preparedness across Dauphin County.

Preparedness through training. Readiness through teamwork. ☢️🚒
