Some of the smallest lives leave the biggest holes in our hearts. šŸ’”

A newborn kitten can fit in the palm of your hand—and before you know it, become someone you love with your whole heart.

We learn their tiny sounds. We memorize their routines. We celebrate every ounce gained, every stronger feeding, and every small sign of progress.

We keep them warm. We provide medical care. We feed them around the clock. We stay awake worrying about whether they will make it through the night.

24 hours a day. 7 days a week.

These fragile babies may arrive cold, weak, dehydrated, injured, orphaned, or already fighting infection and serious health problems.

Some are born to mothers who are too young, sick, injured, underweight, exhausted, or unable to care for themselves or their babies. Older mothers can also become weakened by repeated pregnancies.

Every mother and every kitten deserves compassion. They are not to blame for the circumstances they were born into.

They are simply trying to survive.

And sometimes, despite every feeding, every medication, every warm blanket, every sleepless night, and every bit of love we give them…

They still die.

It rips your heart out every time.

We hold them close. We comfort them. We do everything we can to ease their fear and suffering.

And when we cannot save them, we grieve them deeply—because they mattered.

Their short lives mattered.

Every single one mattered.

We carry every loss with us.

That’s why prevention matters so much.

We cannot rescue our way out of this crisis.

We will always be here for the cats and kittens who need help. But they deserve better than lives defined by illness, hunger, abandonment, and preventable suffering.

Mothers deserve the chance to live without being weakened by litter after litter.

Kittens deserve the chance to be born into safety, care, and love.

Please help prevent the suffering before it begins:

• Spay and neuter every cat you own.
• Support TNR—Trap, Neuter, Return—for community cats.
• Contact local shelters, rescues, or humane societies about low-cost programs.
• Never abandon an unaltered cat or kitten outdoors. Ask for help.
• Support rescue and TNR groups through donations, supplies, fostering, transportation, or volunteering.
• Share this message with compassion and understanding.

Every altered cat means fewer unwanted litters, fewer mothers pushed beyond their limits, fewer cats facing illness and injury, and fewer fragile kittens born into suffering.

We will keep fighting for every tiny life that comes through our doors.

We will keep showing up, even when our hearts are broken.

But the most compassionate thing we can do is prevent as much suffering as possible before it begins.

Don’t wait for the next litter. Spay. Neuter. Support TNR.

TNR. SPAY. NEUTER.

Prevention is about more than numbers.

It’s about protecting mothers, community cats, and newborn kittens—and giving them the chance to live safe, healthy, and loved lives. ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

Please share this message, support local rescue efforts, and help us make sure fewer kittens are born into suffering.

A LITTLE REMINDER ABOUT RESCUE… ā¤ļøšŸ¾

Please don’t slam a rescue because we can’t take every kitten who needs help.

We understand how heartbreaking it is when you find a tiny kitten and don’t know where to turn. We understand the desperation. We really do. We wish we could say yes every single time. And we try our best too.

But rescue has limits.

Especially when you’re caring for neonates, there is only so much we can responsibly take on. Newborn kittens don’t just need a safe place to stay. They need care around the clock—feeding, stimulating, cleaning, monitoring, medications, vet care, and sometimes emergency intervention.

There is no clocking out.

There is no ā€œI’ll get to it tomorrow.ā€

There are tiny lives depending on us 24/7.

And our capacity can change within minutes.

We may be able to take two kittens at 10:00 AM and have an emergency come in at 10:15 that means we simply cannot safely take another.

Sometimes we can take one.

Sometimes we can take two.

Sometimes we can’t take any.

And sometimes we may not respond immediately—not because we don’t care, but because we are literally caring for the babies already in our hands.

Please remember that Everyone is full.

Rescues are overwhelmed. Shelters are overwhelmed. Foster homes are overwhelmed. There are more kittens needing help than there are available people, homes, time, and resources.

And yet the people doing rescue are often expected to somehow find room for just one more.

We are not saying no because we don’t care.

Sometimes we are saying no because we care enough to be honest about what we can responsibly handle.

We work around the clock. We sacrifice our time, our sleep, our homes, and our own resources because we love these animals.

We don’t always get thanked.

We don’t always get understood.

And unfortunately, sometimes we get criticized publicly by people who don’t see what is happening behind the scenes.

That part hurts.

Because while someone may be posting that we ā€œwon’t help,ā€ we may be sitting on the floor at 2 AM feeding a litter of fragile newborns, trying desperately to keep them alive.

We are not superheroes. We are people.

People who get tired.

People who get overwhelmed.

People who have limits.

But people who keep showing up.

So if we can’t take your kitten, please don’t assume we don’t care.

If we don’t answer immediately, please give us some grace.

And if you have the ability to help, help us find another solution instead of tearing down the people who are already doing everything they can.

Share the post.

Ask friends.

Call shelters and other rescues.

Offer to foster or help.

Donate supplies.

Sometimes the difference between a kitten getting help and not getting help is simply one more person willing to step up.

We will continue to do everything we can.

We just can’t do everything.

And that doesn’t mean we care any less. ā¤ļø

THE PARTS OF KITTENS RESCUE (NW) NOBODY WANTS TO TALK ABOUT. šŸ’”šŸ¾

This past week, we lost a newborn litter—tiny lives who came to us already in severe need of help.

These babies were only 2–3 ounces, newborn and incredibly fragile. By the time they reached us, they were already on death’s door, needing warmth, medical care, nourishment, and someone willing to fight for them.

We loved them. We cared for them. We hoped they would make it.

Now their beds are empty.

We celebrate every kitten who survives, grows stronger, finds a foster home, and leaves for a forever family. Those happy endings are why we keep going.

But there is another side of rescue that rarely makes it onto social media.

We lose too many babies.

Some arrive battling panleukopenia, severe infections, dehydration, starvation, fading kitten syndrome, or illnesses their tiny bodies are too weak to overcome. Others are orphaned, abandoned, cold, or already dangerously fragile.

And when these tiny 2–3 ounce newborns come through our doors, they are often already critically ill and fighting for their lives. They may be too weak to nurse, too cold to regulate their body temperature, severely dehydrated, or barely responsive.

When they come to us, we fight for them with everything we have.

We provide medications, fluids, formula, warmth, and comfort. We syringe-feed around the clock, monitor every breath and feeding, clean and disinfect constantly, make emergency veterinary trips, lose sleep, worry, pray—and love them with our whole hearts.

Sometimes, despite everything…

we still lose them.

There is no adoption photo. No joyful update. No forever family waiting at the end of their story.

Sometimes there is only an empty bed, a folded blanket, and the unbearable knowledge that a tiny life we promised to protect is gone.

We grieve the kittens we lost, but we also grieve the lives we imagined for them—the families who would have loved them, the sunny windows where they would have slept, the toys they would have chased, the purrs they would have shared, and the years they should have had.

People sometimes ask, ā€œHow do you keep doing this when you lose so many?ā€

The truth is, it hurts more than we can explain. We do not become used to it, and we do not simply move on.

Every kitten matters.

Even if we only had them for a few hours or days, they deserved warmth, food, medical care, gentle hands, and love. When we could not save them, we made sure they were not alone.

We wish it were always enough.

It isn’t.

That is one of the hardest truths of rescue.

Rescue is not only the happy endings.

It is loving the kittens who make it, grieving the kittens who do not, and carrying every loss while finding the strength to open our doors to the next fragile baby who needs help.

When Kitten Rescue NW asks for donations, fosters, supplies, or support, you are helping us say yes to kittens who might otherwise have nowhere to go.

You are helping provide emergency veterinary care, medications, fluids, formula, specialized food, heating, testing, and round-the-clock care.

A donation of any amount can help provide an emergency exam, life-saving medication, a bottle of formula, critical fluids, or supplies for an entire litter.

If you are able, please donate through our website:

KittenRescueNW.org

Fosters are also essential. A quiet room, warmth, regular feedings, medication, and loving hands can mean everything to a kitten too young, sick, or frightened to face the world alone.

You do not have to know everything before you begin. Kitten Rescue NW provides guidance and support.

Supplies such as formula, nursing bottles, heating pads, bedding, p*e pads, food, litter, disinfectant, and cleaning products are not extras. They help keep these babies safe, comfortable, and alive.

And when we lose one, please don’t say, ā€œAt least you tried.ā€

We know we tried.

We needed them to live.

We wanted them to live. We loved them enough to believe they could.

Sometimes trying is all we have.

So we grieve this newborn litter. We remember them. We carry them with us.

And we try again. Because somewhere out there, another kitten is cold, hungry, sick, frightened, or alone. They do not know what rescue is or whether they will survive.

But if they make it into the care of Kitten Rescue NW, we will give them everything we have. We will fight for them, comfort them, and love them. We will never let them face their hardest moments alone.

Because every kitten matters.

Even the ones we could not save.

And this newborn litter will always be part of why we keep fighting for the next one. ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹šŸ¾

šŸ’• THE SINGLETON TINIES ARE FINALLY OUT OF QUARANTINE! šŸ’•

Today, my rescue heart is especially happy. šŸ„¹ā¤ļø These two precious babies are only 5 ounces each—so incredibly tiny and fragile, with so much growing still to do. Every feeding, every ounce, every little milestone has been a victory.

And today, something beautiful happened…

They finally got what they’ve been crying for and craving all along—a kitten family. šŸ¾ā¤ļø

After spending their precious first days without another kitten beside them, they can finally curl up together, feel a little heartbeat next to theirs, share warmth, and have a tiny friend to comfort them. For such fragile little babies, this means everything. 🄹

These are the moments that make rescue so incredibly rewarding. We love them. We worry over them. We celebrate every ounce they gain and every hurdle they overcome. And then comes the part we dream about most…

Finding them a family of their very own. ā¤ļø

Maybe their forever family is reading this right now.
Maybe one of these tiny faces is the kitten your heart has been waiting for.
Maybe it’s you. šŸ„¹šŸ”

If they continue to thrive without complications, they’ll be available for adoption anywhere we can safely send them throughout the U.S. and Canada. So please don’t let distance stop you from reaching out—your forever kitten doesn’t necessarily have to be right around the corner.

Give them a place to belong.
Give them your lap.
Give them your love.
Give them forever. ā¤ļøšŸ¾

And I promise… these tiny hearts will give you so much more in return.

šŸ™ Can’t adopt? You can still change a life. Donations are what allow us to say YES to babies this tiny and fragile—providing formula, warmth, food, medical care, and round-the-clock care until they’re strong enough for their forever homes.

When a life weighs only 5 ounces, every single gift matters. ā¤ļø
