Going to mention this the next time someone tells me doulas are expensive. And I can guarantee that three hours of sitting were all me sitting on a stool doing hip squeezes.

This is a birth story for the ages! This first time mom’s story began last week, when she walked away from an induction she spent four days in the hospital for! After all the medications didn’t work she decided she was done! And thank God she did because she went into actual labor Friday night & achieved her unmedicated hospital birth despite: a 27 hour labor where contractions were 2 minutes apart most of the time, a prolonged late stage of active labor, & a big baby!! This mama, as her husband stated again & again, persevered through it all!!

This morning’s baby was in a hurry! He arrived just 1.5 hours after my client text me that she thought things were starting! I walked into the birth center as he was bringing born! My client handled this quick labor so well!

Wow! In 11 years I’ve never witnessed a first time mom breech vaginal birth be honored in a hospital!
But this mom was DETERMINED. She came to me with a care provider who suggested 39 week induction for her “advanced” maternal age. So I helped her find a new provider that she liked but when her baby remained breech & she was told csection would be the only option she went out to find a homebirth midwife willing to support breech vaginal birth.
She did all she could at home when the time came but after prolonged pushing God sent her the right people to make breech vaginal birth in the hospital possible! And with the help of an epidural she was able to achieve it! This mama had such strength & grit! It was such an honor to support her!

What a beautiful day to have a baby!
This first time mama came to me wanting as little intervention as possible for her planned hospital birth.
She prepared so well. And patiently awaited for her baby to choose their own birthday.
Despite challenges, including a stalled labor & supposed big baby, she persevered. And while her unique birth story required her to pivot a bit she achieved a powerful vaginal birth.
I’m so proud of the hard work & sacrifice she put into meeting her baby💕

Today was a beautifully unexpected day to meet a baby!
I started it out with a prenatal. Then an interview. And what I thought would be a pop in to a client who was contracting somewhat with a baby in a funky position. We did side lying release. And I ended up helping them catch their baby less than two hours later, minutes before midwives made it😯
It was a beautiful water birth at home. A very redemptive planned homebirth after two medicated hospital births in which she did not feel supported.
I’m so glad I got to witness such a beautiful birth💕

Today’s birth was unexpected in many ways!
1. I didn’t foresee meeting this little one for a bit.
2. This mama’s labor flew despite it being his first birth.
3. Just an hour after contractions started out intensely I was asked to come & I walked into baby being born!

Birth constantly proves that we may know a lot about it but that doesn’t mean we can predict what will happen at every single birth. This mama did great handling all the uncertainty & intensity that comes with a precipitous birth💕
