Have you spotted a junco yet?
Dark-eyed Juncos are a sure sign that the seasons are changing. These small sparrows spend much of their time feeding on or near the ground, searching for seeds like millet and sunflower.
One of the easiest ways to recognize a junco is when it takes flight. Look for a flash of white along the outer edges of the tail.
As temperatures begin to change, start watching for these seasonal backyard visitors.

Celebrating five years with Sue, our District Manager, who somehow keeps every store humming and every teammate supported. Congratulations, Sue — we couldn't do it without you!
Many backyard birds are clever food hiders, or “cachers,” storing seeds, nuts and even insects in tree crevices, under bark or in the ground to eat later! 🌳🥜 These smart birds use landmarks, the sun and even each other to keep track of their stashes, helping them survive tough winters and busy seasons. ❄️☀️ Watching them work is like seeing a tiny treasure hunt happen in your backyard! 🔍✨

Grab a peanut. Fly away. Hide it. Repeat.
Jays, chickadees and nuthatches are known for caching food, storing it in different locations so they can return to it later.
You might see food tucked into tree bark, beneath leaves, or carried completely out of sight.
While you’re stocking your pantry during the Bird Food Sale, your backyard birds might be stocking theirs too.

The windows in our homes and offices can be hazardous for birds. Birds cannot readily distinguish the presence of a pane of transparent glass from an unobstructed space or passageway and often fly into window panes causing injury or death. Click here to learn more: www.wbu.com/window-strikes
